Meet the World's Quickest 6g Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 modified by Vengeance Racing packs more than a thousand rear wheel horsepower, allowing it to run the quarter mile in the 9.50 range – making it the quickest 6th generation ZL1 in the world and odds are good that it will keep getting quicker.

The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is, without question, the most capable Camaro ever built when it comes to high performance measures. The new ZL1 turned in the quickest lap time by an American muscle car at the famous Nurburgring road course in Germany, but more importantly to many American drivers – the new supercharged Camaro is the quickest stock, street legal Chevy muscle car ever.

In stock form, the 650 horsepower LT4 will get the new Camaro ZL1 down the quarter mile in the 11-second range, but as we all know with muscle cars and drag racing – stock numbers are rarely good enough for many owners. That is where Vengeance Racing comes into play, as their VR100 package for the new Camaro ZL1, nearly doubling the power output and allowing the newest Chevy muscle car to run well into the 9-second quarter mile range.

Based both on Vengeance Racing’s claim and what I have seen in covering the muscle car world, running 9.5X quarter miles makes this Camaro ZL1 the quickest of its kind in the world.

The Vengeance Racing Camaro ZL1 VR1100
So how did Vengeance Racing get a new Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 into the mid-9s? The secret is a combination of their VR1100 package and a set of sticky drag radial tires.

The Vengeance Racing VR1100 package begins by improving the LT4 output by means of a ProCharger F1A-94 supercharger, an LME intake manifold, a Vengeance Racing custom camshaft, Vengeance Racing ported LT4 cylinder heads, Kooks Performance 2” longtube headers, a methanol injection system and a beefed up fuel system, all of which is tuned to run on C16 race fuel. The result of the engine modifications is 1,047 rear wheel horsepower and 784lb-ft of rear wheel torque.

Also, the VR1100 package adds 20 inch Weld Racing wheels wrapped in Mickey Thompson drag radial tires and BMR 1 inch lowering springs, so while the engine modifications help make monster power – the wheels, tires and suspension changes help the Camaro ZL1 get down the track in a hurry.

To be specific, Vengeance Racing has run “Several 9.5X at 152mph passes”, with 9.58 at 152.97 miles per hour setting the record for the quickest quarter mile run by a 6th gen Camaro ZL1.

More importantly, if you watch the video below of the record run and you have any knowledge regarding the drag racing world, you will notice that it sounds as though the VR1100 Camaro ZL1 leaves the line at a relatively low RPM. It almost sounds like the driver launches just over idle, so there seems to be more to gain on launch and that means that we could see even quicker times from the Vengeance Camaro ZL1 in the near future.

In the meantime, enjoy the video below of the world’s quickest 6th gen Camaro ZL1.
