BMW M GmbH is continually looking to improve the driving experience for its M3 and M4 owners and has just expanded their M performance parts lineup for performance enthusiasts. BMW is bringing these new performance goodies to the Essen Motor Show 2014 and they will be available soon in the expanding BMW M Performance Parts lineup. These 4 new performance components will deliver improvements to the total BMW M driving experience.
Further improvements to airflow
Improved aerodynamics are the key to improving airflow at high speeds and BMW M has new aerodynamic components for the BMW M3, BMW M4 Coupe and BMW M4 Convertible. Customers can choose a number of new items including add-on parts in carbon for the side sections of the front bumper, a front attachment made from polyurethane (PUR), a carbon rear diffuser and a carbon rear spoiler. PUR is also used for the side skirt attachments and a rear spoiler for the BMW M3. And new, tri-color side decals with “M Performance” lettering are now available for the Sedan, Coupe and Convertible.
An improved driving experience on and off the track
Now there’s a new M performance steering wheel with Race Display for the BMW M3 and BMW M4. The new steering wheel comes with Alcantara covering, carbon trim and a new Race Display with thumb rests featuring a pair of embedded buttons used to activate Efficient Dynamics mode, Sport mode and Race mode. The M driver can use the integrated display at the top of the steering wheel rim to view gear change signals and lateral/longitudinal acceleration figures. Sport mode has a stopwatch function with displays for hours, minutes and seconds and Lateral/longitudinal acceleration figures are also shown.
M drivers who take their performance M3 and M4 to the track can use the Race mode that displays lap times and is stored in minutes, seconds and hundredths of seconds. The top speeds and maximum lateral/longitudinal acceleration figures for the most recent 50 laps completed can also be stored.
Emotion-rich engine soundtrack
The BMW M Performance silencer system developed specially for the BMW M3 and BMW M4 now provides a striking engine soundtrack. The system uses exhaust gas channelling to generate an emotion-rich engine soundtrack to better bring out the performance characteristics of the biturbo straight-six powerplant. The lightweight flap control exhaust system comprises a stainless-steel exhaust system and a silencer made completely from titanium and comes with M Performance lettering when viewed from the rear. It also features tailpipe embellishers, in either titanium or carbon, with the M logo.

BMW says the new system is heat-resistant, corrosion-resistant and weighs around eight kilograms less than the standard item. M drivers have two settings, Standard and Sport and Sport+, both of which are linked to an engine performance profile that can be activated at the touch of a button. Standard can be used for everyday driving, Sport and Sport+ used when the driver wants more feedback on engine load.
Examine your driving style
BMW M3 and M4 models going back to MY2011 can be outfitted with the new BMW M Performance Drive Analyser. It allows owners to examine their driving style on or off the track. This new performance tool records driving dynamics data by using an On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) stick, which is plugged into the relevant socket in the car, as well as software in the form of an app for Android and iOS smartphones and tablets and uses Bluetooth for the connection. The car’s Click & Drive holder, allows easy attachment of your smartphone to the windshield. It measures the car’s speed, gear currently engaged, accelerator and brake usage, engine data and lateral acceleration. It’s all stored in your smartphone/tablet and can be accessed at any time. Drivers can study the results directly on their smartphone after every session.
BMW M GmbH is continually looking to improve the driving experience and driving dynamics for its M3 and M4 owners. These 4 new performance enhancements will give BMW M3 and M4 owners better airflow at high speeds, a better driving experience, an emotion-rich engine soundtrack and the ability to examine your driving style on and off the track. All the products belong to the Original BMW Accessories range and will not affect the warranty terms for your vehicle.
