5 Things Every New Subaru Owner Should Know Before You Get It Dirty

Here are five things new Subaru Forester, Crosstrek, Outback, and other model owners need to know before you take your vehicle out and have fun. They may seem simple, but you'll be glad to know them.

With Subaru attracting new customers to the brand, there are five things new Subaru Forester, Crosstrek, Outback, and other model owners need to know before they take their vehicle out and have fun this summer. You may know some of them, and they may seem simple, but you'll be glad to know all of them. The tips come from Alex Prestigiacomo, a sales representative at Bachman Subaru. You can check out his video below for additional Subaru information.

The Hood release

The inside hood release lever is relatively easy to locate, and it's located below the driver's left side. You can look for the hood latch icon and pull the lever to release the hood. Opening the hood once it's released can be more difficult.

You can run your finger along the inside of the partially open hood just above the Subaru logo. When you feel the latch, pull it from right to left, and it will completely release the hood. There is a hood prop that you pull up and attach to the opening in the hood to keep it in the up position.

Gas door release

Some Subaru models have the gas release lever inside the car near the driver's seat. Pull up, and it releases the gas door. Other new Subaru models have the gas release on the outside. Gently push the gas door on the left, and it releases the lock.

Note: If your car door is locked, the gas door will not open as an anti-theft measure. Another thing to know about your gas tank door; is how to remember which side of the car your filler door is on when you pull up to the pump. There's a gas icon with a small arrow to the right side indicating which side it's located.

Radio presets

Knowing how to access and control your radio and save presets is essential so you are not using the dial whenever you want to find your favorite channel. Push the Radio icon on the touchscreen; you'll see several blank preset buttons. You find your favorite AM, FM, or XM station and hold the button until your radio station is saved.

Wireless CarPlay

How do you connect your smartphone to the car through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto? The new 2023 models have wireless connectivity. Older models have a plug-and-play option below the touchscreen. You can mirror the apps on your phone through the car on the new models.

To connect your phone, click on the phone icon on the lower right portion of the touchscreen. Click ADD and then the setting app on your phone, go to Bluetooth, and look for the device name, which is located at the top of the car's touchscreen. Click the name, pair, and sync up your phone and contacts. Click on Use CarPlay. Click on Yes on the car's touchscreen.

Maintenance reminders

Knowing the maintenance schedule is essential to keep your vehicle in top shape. Click on the home button on the touchscreen, touch the Car Info button, and then maintenance. The screen lets you set maintenance reminders for oil changes, tire rotation, or general maintenance schedules. You can schedule by a specific date or by the vehicle's mileage.

Note: You can also set your phone to access the maintenance to gain remote access and get notifications.

The five things new Subaru Forester, Crosstrek, Outback, and other model owners should know may seem simple, but you'll be glad to know them before you take your new all-wheel-drive vehicle and have fun this summer.
