The Aging Forester Needs A Remodel, But Subaru Says Not So Fast

The 2023 Subaru Forester is on a new mission to be the top-selling model for Subaru of America. The compact SUV was the hot model in August. See what the aging Forester just pulled off again.

The 2023 Subaru Forester needs a remodel, but it's still the hot model for Subaru of America. The Forester compact SUV rose to the top and is again the best-selling model in the all-wheel-drive lineup. Customers aren't waiting for the next-generation Forester.

If you shopped for the 2023 Subaru Forester in August, you know how hard they are to find. The Forester is in high demand as more customers want the compact SUV. Subaru Corporation ramped up production recently and delivered more models for customers.

In July, the 2023 Subaru Forester compact SUV was the best-selling model in SOA's lineup. In August, the Forester was the number-one selling all-wheel-drive model for Subaru of America again. The Forester was up an impressive 45.9 percent, the most significant percentage increase of any model.

SOA delivered 15,294 models to U.S. customers compared with 10,477 in August 2022. Forester is now up 31.7 percent in the first eight months of 2023. Even with an impressive August performance, Forester has 91,108 models sold in 2023 and stays in third place behind the Outback and Crosstrek. If Forester's torrid pace continues, it will be an exciting race to the finish in 2023.

“Looking back on an incredible summer for sales, we are well-positioned for an even stronger fall as the 2024 Ascent, Forester, and Crosstrek Wilderness models arrive at retailers in the coming season,” said Troy Poston, Senior Vice President of Sales.

Outback is in second place in August but still leads for the year.

The 2023 Subaru Outback midsize SUV is the second-place performer in the lineup, increasing 32.7 percent in August, with 14,503 models sold compared with 10,928 in August 2022. Outback is now up 11.7 percent in the first eight months of 2023. Outback still leads all other models this year, with 108,336 midsize SUVs delivered to customers in 2023.

What's next for the hot Forester?

Subaru of America announced the 2024 Forester, a carry-over model with no changes. Customers must wait another year for the remodeled next-generation Forester compact SUV.

Subaru Corporation has decided to stand pat with the current-generation Forester for one more year before it gets a complete remodel. But it's a brilliant move because with Forester sales staying strong, the Japanese automaker can spend another year on the redesign.

What is the price of the 2024 Forester?

All 2024 Forester trim levels increased by $770 in price, including destination and delivery. The Forester comes in six trim levels: The Base Forester starts at $28,190, Premium ($31,390), Sport ($32,960), Limited ($35,070), Wilderness ($36,015), and Touring ($38,490). Pricing includes destination and delivery fees ($1,295).

Before the Forester gets a complete remodel, the compact SUV has two months as the top-selling model in Subaru of America's all-wheel-drive lineup. Can Forester make it three in a row? Stay tuned.
