Subaru Rally Team (SRT) USA and Subaru Tecnica International (STI) unveiled new liveries yesterday for the 2015 Subaru WRX STI’s that will be at Red Bull GRC Los Angeles. This double-header event is presented by Subaru Tecnica International and brings David Higgins and Travis Pastrana to join Subaru team drivers Bucky Lasek and Sverre Isachsen. The LA double-header event is coming up on September 12-13.
SRT USA is working with their motorsports partners STI more closely this season and will roll out the four-driver assault for the STI-sponsored LA GRC event. Subaru Motorsports Marketing Manager Rob Weir says there will be more surprises for fans beyond the new liveries. Weir says, “The upcoming GRC LA round will be a very memorable event for our fans. We’re excited to debut these new liveries with our team partners at STI. That’s not all though; Subaru and STI will have a few more surprises for the fans that we’ll be sharing very soon.”
SRT USA didn’t attend the last round of Global Rallycross so they could prepare the new liveries and get Pastrana and Higgins ready for the LA double-header weekend in September. Higgins and Pastrana are also running the Rally America Ojibwe Forests Rally event this weekend in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Subaru is having great success in the Rally America Championship and Higgins has mathematically secured his fifth consecutive Rally America Championship title.
Global Rallycross is a completely different beast and SRT USA has had a number of challenges with the new 2015 Subaru WRX STI rally cars. The cars are co-developed by Vermont SportsCar and Subaru Tecnica International and feature a spec 2.0-liter Subaru boxer engine producing nearly 600hp, a 6-speed sequential transmission, all-wheel drive, and METHOD Race Wheels.
Red Bull Global Rallycross LA returns to the Port of San Pedro with main events on September 12-13. Fans will have to wait for the next surprise announcement coming from Subaru Motorsports about the 2015 Subaru WRX STI GRC cars. Stay tuned.
