What Makes This Japan-Spec 2018 Subaru Forester “Smart”

Japan announced a new special edition 2018 Subaru Forester. What makes it “Smart”?

Subaru loves to launch special edition models around the globe, and this one comes from Japan. Subaru Corporation takes the sporty 2018 Forester 2.0 XT turbo model and makes it “Smart”. The Japan-only Forester 2.0 XT “Smart Edition” was announced today with added features that will make the Forester XT stand out even more.

This special Forester is based on the Japan-spec 2.0 XT EyeSight and S-Limited models and gets sporty exterior features like dark plated front grill, black door mirror, shark fin roof antenna, black roof rails, and side cladding similar to the Crosstrek crossover (2.0 XT EyeSight Smart Edition). It also gets chrome around the exterior of the window frame.

On the inside, Forester “Smart Edition” comes with a silver instrument panel and silver center console and door grip. The XT’s sport pedals are aluminum, the driver’s and front passenger seat comes with 8-way power adjustment, and the rear seats are heated in the special edition Forester 2.0 XT.

The S-Limited Smart Edition is powered by Subaru’s 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine coupled with a Lineartronic automatic. The 2.0 XT EyeSight Smart Edition gets the new-generation 2.0-liter Direct Injection Turbo (DIT) engine sourced from the WRX, mated to a Sports Lineartronic automatic with paddle shifters.

The 2018 Subaru Forester “Smart Edition” announced for the Japan market comes in Crystal White Pearl, Crystal Black Silica, Sepia Bronze Metallic, Venetian Red Pearl and Dark Blue Pearl. Could this be a forerunner of one the 50th anniversary models Subaru of America will launch next year? Stay tuned.
