The Subaru Crosstrek before now has not been on the rally stages until recently. This Crosstrek is the second Subaru crossover rally car after a Chinese model was launched last week. That rally car is driven by Subaru Rally Team China. It was developed by Vermont SportsCar who builds the rally cars and Global Rallycross machines for Subaru here in the US.
Subaru Canada used the Rallye Defi in Montpellier, QC last weekend to show off their latest Crosstrek rally car. It was the North American debut of the Crosstrek Competition Platform. It’s a new rally project launched by Subaru Rally Team Canada (SRTC) operating team Rocket Rally that features the 2016 Subaru WRX STI.
“Rally-in-a-Box” Subaru Crosstrek
SRTC brought the new Crosstrek rally project that offers a brand-new, showroom quality, dealer-supportable "rally-in-a-box" Crosstrek to Canadian Rally Championship (CRC) rally competition. The crossover was driven for the first time by David Nickel at the Rallye Defi and he did quite well. The new Crosstrek rally car was able to win stages outright on its first outing and even contended for the overall win.
Subaru hasn’t released many details on the new "rally-in-a-box" 2017 Crosstrek, but it’s going to be available in Canada for motorsport enthusiasts who want to go rally racing. It will likely get a package similar to the Australian WRX STI NR4-spec rally cars with different packages for club amateur and professional teams.
