Ford’s Mustang Mach-E Wins 2nd Straight Wards Interior Honor

Ford products are no strangers to the Wards List of honors. In addition to other awards, for the second straight year, the Mustang Mach-E has been named to the Wards Best Interior List.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E, the automaker's first fully electric vehicle, is no stranger to awards. Indeed, the electric has scored a spot on the 2021 Wards 10 Best Interior List for the second year in a row.

Interior Called ‘Modern Take On Luxury’

Says the Ford Authority (FA), a leading site providing information on the Ford Motor Co., Wards called the Mach-E's interior a "more modern take on luxury." Even as automotive "interiors have become increasingly more complex with buttons and screens," says the Ford Authority, the Mustang Mach-E is a 'refreshing change.'"

Even though the Mustang Mach-E "isn't technically classified as a luxury vehicle," the cabin "certainly looks like a premium cabin thanks to "' its sleek ivory-and-black cabin and minimal switchgear," the FA says, quoting Wards.

For the 2021 entry, Wards judged a premium model Mach-E. The vehicle was a top-of-the-line model, equipped with all-wheel-drive. The 2021 Wards 10 Best Interior List based its judgment on this model. It was equipped with "perforated leatherette, contrast stitching, and black and ivory touches" that gave the vehicle a "more luxurious appearance."

Better-Looking Interior Trim

FA noted that there was another touch that Wards noted, "the EV's matte plastic trim, which is textured for a nicer look than the average cheap plastic found in most vehicles these days."

Wards looked at "other notable features." They included Mach-E's black-and-white check-patterned fabrics fabric. The Mach-E design team used the fabric on the door trim and instrument panel. Meantime, they used a "basketweave pattern inside the cupholders and on the wireless charging pad." There is also an aluminum-look trim on the volume and gear selector knobs, says FA, "and both carbon-fiber look and piano-black trim various other places around the interior."

On top of its good looks, Wards also praised the fact that all of the Mach-E's switchgear is easy to reach and use, and that includes the giant 15.5-inch touchscreen. '"The abundance of technology inside also works very well,"' says FA, continuing that the tech'" and '" isn’t laggy whatsoever, a problem that plagues many modern vehicles.”’

Seating Comfortable For Adults

Wards found that the seating was comfortable. Indeed, it noted that the second row of seating is also suitable for adults, to boot, capping off another award for the multi-award-winning crossover.

As noted, Ford products “are no stranger to Wards Auto award lists,” notes FA.

That wasn’t all of the winning lists that Ford is on. For example, thethe 2020 Lincoln Aviator 2020 Lincoln Aviator was on Wards list of 10 Best [Vehicle] Interiors last year, while the Ford Mustang Mach-EMustang Mach-E and its “electrified powertrain” was on the Wards list of 2021 10 Best Engines. The 2021 Ford F-150 and the 3.5-liter PowerBoost V-6 also made the 10 Best Engines list.

2nd Straight Award

For the Mustang Mach-E, the 2021 Wards 10 Best Interior List spot was the electric’s second straight award nod.

Marc Stern has been an automotive writer since 1971 when an otherwise normal news editor said, "You're our new car editor," and dumped about 27 pounds of auto stuff on my desk. I was in heaven as I have been a gearhead from my early days. As a teen, I spent the usual number of misspent hours hanging out at gas stations Shell and Texaco (a big thing in my youth) and working on cars. From there on, it was a straight line to my first column for the paper, "You Auto Know," an enterprise that I handled faithfully for 32 years. Not many people know that I also handled computer documentation for a good part of my living while writing YAN. My best writing, though, was always in cars.
