There's a lot to be said for seeing and seizing opportunities. Time and again, recently Ford has taken a look at its lineup and has added off-road variants that are hugely popular. The mid-sized Ranger Raptor is one example as is the Bronco Raptor. Even the staid SUV, the Explorer, has an off-roading option, the Timberline. Ford has done it again with its tease of the upcoming van for off-roaders, the Transit Trail Van.

Although it seems like a natural, a hybrid pickup truck isn't. Though hybrids offer a good combination of electric and standard internal-combustion, automakers with one exception -- Ford -- prefer standard ICE tech for their trucks. Ford has shown electric trucks work and its Maverick hybrid shows hybrid tech works for pickups, too.

Following a years-long trial that resulted from a 2014 truck crash, the jury has awarded the plaintiffs $1.7 billion. They made a claim that a weak roof on a 2002 Ford F-150 Super Duty contributed to the deaths of their parents in the crash. Ford, which disputes the award, plans an appeal.
