After adding a third shift at Giga Berlin and reaching a production rate of 5000 vehicles a week, Tesla is now reportedly looking to add a fourth shift. With the addition of the new shift, Tesla plans to grow vehicle production at the plant to 10,000 vehicles a week or 500,000 vehicles a year.

It has been widely confirmed that Tesla managed to close a record first quarter 2023 in terms of car production and deliveries, even exceeding the expectations set by Wall Street. The electric vehicle giant produced a total of 440,000 cars, surpassing analysts' estimates, which hovered around 420,000 units.

Tesla officially inaugurated Giga Texas less than a year ago. However, today, the EV maker has announced that the plant has reached a Model Y production rate of 4000 vehicles a week. This gives Giga Texas an annualized production rate of 200,000 vehicles per year.

Tesla has posted its Q1 2023 production and delivery numbers and despite the massive price cuts the EV maker instituted at the beginning of the quarter, Tesla has nonetheless posted flat growth. Although disappointing, several factors suggest that Tesla will increase production and deliveries in the coming quarters.

According to data released by JATO, in the month of February, the Model Y has become the best-selling vehicle in Europe. And even more impressively, the Model Y was able to beat not only battery-electric vehicles but also internal-combustion vehicles with a significantly lower starting price.

During February 2023 more than 900,000 cars were registered in Europe - an interannual increase of 12% - which shows the recovery of the market after a 2022 marked by problems in the supply of semiconductors. In the first two months of this year, registrations amounted to 1.81 million units, 11% more.

Following the success of the Lathrop, Califonia Megafactory, Tesla at the recently held Investor Day said the plant will be replicated all around the world. And today, a new job opening by Tesla China has all but confirmed that the EV maker is planning to build a new Megapack factory in China.

Giga Mexico is expected to produce vehicles built on Tesla's next-generation, much more efficient, Gen-3 platform.
