Among the sprawling Chevrolet Performance display at the 2013 SEMA Show is a trio of 2014 Corvette Stingrays which have been customized to make the gorgeous new Vette even hotter – with two models focusing on the needs of different geographic regions while the third shows off the automakers cooperation with the video game series Gran Turismo.
The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is the biggest thing to hit the automotive industry in ages so it shouldn’t come as a big surprise that GM rolled out a few customized C7 Corvettes to the massive SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Honestly, It would have seemed more unlikely for there not to be a couple new Corvettes in the Chevy Performance display but GM took an interesting approach in showing off the most powerful “base” Corvette ever at SEMA. Rather than transforming the 2014 Stingray into a thousand horsepower monster with components that will likely never see street use, two of these Corvette Concepts look very much like vehicles that could arrive in your local showroom in the near future – depending on where you live.
First up, we have the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible Atlantic Concept which is powered by the standard LT1 V8 and a 6-speed automatic transmission. This Blade Silver Corvette was customized to fit in with what GM believes is a typical east coast lifestyle with “sophisticated styling enhancements resembling the details and refinement of a private jet”, using both concept items which are currently unavailable through the Chevrolet Accessories catalog and some items which are currently available to 2014 Corvette owners.
On the outside, the Corvette Stingray Convertible Atlantic features concept items such as a Carbon Flash Metallic front splitter, rear rocker extensions, a rear diffuser, Fusion Gray headlamp housings and matching hood accents. From the current Chevrolet Accessories catalog, the Stingray Convertible Atlantic Concept wears chrome five spoke wheel measuring 19 inches up front and 20 out back, wheel center caps with the Stingray name, a Carbon Flash Metallic rear license plate frame, molded splash guards and an underhood liner with the Stingray logo. Inside, the Atlantic Corvette Concept sports a set of suede wrapped concept seats, a rear windscreen, premium floor mats, custom sill plates, an embroidered center armrest with the Stingray logo and custom Corvette-branded luggage.
Next up we have the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe Pacific Concept – a C7 fitted with the Z51 package, the 7-speed transmission and a list of customizations that allows it to fit in with the west coast culture. GM began with a Torch Red 2014 Corvette Z51 Coupe with a carbon fiber hood and an exposed-weave carbon fiber roof panel. The Z51 rear spoiler was painted Carbon Flash Metallic to match the stripes on the hood and front fascia while the concept front splitter and rocker extensions are painted satin black to match the Chevrolet Accessory wheels. On the inside, the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe Pacific Concept sports a carbon fiber trim package, Competition seats, a flat bottom steering wheel with a carbon fiber finish and many of the interior accessories from the Atlantic concept like the door sills and floormats.
With the exception of the few new concept body bits, both the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe Pacific Concept and the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible Atlantic Concept can be built by a C7 Corvette owner just by making a handful of purchases from the Chevrolet Accessories catalog. Best of all, in speaking with Chevrolet reps before SEMA, it seemed that there was at least a good chance that items like the front splitter, rocker extensions and rear diffuser will arrive in the accessories catalog in the near future.
Finally, we have the Corvette Stingray Gran Turismo concept (shown above), which is a celebration of the partnership between General Motors and the Gran Turismo video game series. Gran Turismo 6 features a 2014 Corvette that looks just like the blue beast shown here and after seeing how great the C7 looked on GT6, GM decided to make the real thing for the 2013 SEMA Show. On the outside, the Corvette Stingray Gran Turismo Concept wears a unique deep blue paint, yellow tinted headlights, a carbon fiber rear spoiler, a unique carbon fiber hood, a carbon fiber ground effects package, custom exhaust tips, a front tow hook, a custom grille and custom versions of the Z51 package’s front and rear vents. Inside, the Corvette Gran Turismo Concept wears a set of the Competition seats with racing harnesses, a custom flat-bottom steering wheel and a matching leather-wrapped safety belt bar.
We aren’t likely to see the Corvette Stingray Gran Turismo concept in dealerships any time soon but there is no question that the modifications make for one great looking SEMA show car!
