Everyone knows the basics now on the Miata, but here is what an enthusiast will find very impressive about the all-new MX-5 Miata.
At a recent media event hosted by the New England Motor Press (NEMPA), I had the chance to spend some time scrutinizing the all-new 2016 Mazda Miata. On a beautiful summer morning, my Miata walkaround surprised me. There are so many sweet details on this car.
2016 Mazda Miata Special Mud Flap
The first thing I noticed was the very small “mud-flap” that Mazda has placed just behind the rear wheels up along the fender. On the gray car I was looking at, it would be easy to miss. What I love about this is clearly Mazda has road tested these cars – a lot. On my NC Miata that the car developed rough paint there from being hit by many small stones on the road. This new Gen solves that, and over time the cars will look the better for it.
New MX-5 Mazda Miata Exhaust
I looked down from the trunk and noticed the twice pipes poking out the back. A great look for the little roadster. Just above that is the Skyactive logo. A good reminder of the improved fuel efficiency.
Fancy Miata Cup Holders
Inside the new Nav jumps out from the dash. That’s not news though. The cup holders are. They look awesome with the piano black surrounds on top.
Mazda Miata Sprouts USB Connections
The two USB ports in the front section of the console in the dash will be very welcome. They seem perfectly placed.
New Miata Interior Trim Touches
The body-colored paint inside the cabin on the doors near the door handles looks great. So too did the carbon fiber printed trim on the doors where the window switches are. The piano black of the rollover hoops also looked classy and upscale.
Overall what struck me seeing the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata in person for the first time was how much Mazda sweated the small things. If all goes well we may have a full test drive to report on in the coming weeks.
