Toyota’s New Year’s resolution? Make Corolla, Camry, and Avalon the top selling vehicles in their segments.
Over the past couple of decades Toyota has often had the top selling car in the mid-size “Camry” class of cars. The automaker has also often had the top-selling compact car with its Corolla. Not only is Toyota planning for those two things to happen at once in 2015, the automaker is also hoping that the Avalon will be the top-selling large car. That would be an automotive equivalent of wining the trifecta.
2015 Toyota Sales Plan
Bill Fay, group vice president of Toyota Motor Sales, was quoted by the Detroit Free Press as saying ,“We have a great chance in the Toyota division to have the best-selling cars in three segments, which we have never done before.” The Camry is all-new for 2015, having just been released for sale in October. In its first partial month of sales, the Camry beat the Accord and Fusion.
Bob Carter, senior vice president of automotive operations for Toyota Motor Sales, sees things as rosy as well, saying “If you are not having fun in this auto industry you apparently are not breathing.”
Toyota’s Truck Plan – Sell More
Toyota also plans to sell more of its trucks. We reported a few months back that Toyota is increasing its Tacoma capacity. This seemed odd at the time since the Tacoma is now long-in-the-tooth. However, since then a new, 2016 Toyota Tacoma has been announced. Some customers are not waiting. Even though the new Chevrolet Colorado is a hot new entry to the Tacoma’s market, Tacoma sales went up in Colorado’s first month of sales.
