In Japan, the limited number of 300 2016 Subaru BRZ tS sports coupes sold out quickly. Will fans in the U.S. see an STI enhanced BRZ soon?
Back in June, Subaru announced the new 2016 BRZ tS for the Japan market and the 300 units have sold out. The BRZ tuned by STI must have been pre-ordered by October 12, 2015 and the sport coupes went quickly. The upgraded BRZ is in production now and Subaru says it began shipping them last week with arrival later this month.
Performance fans in Japan could get the BRZ tS in 4 exterior colors, Sunrise Yellow sold 100 units (33 percent), WR Blue Pearl 92 units (30.7 percent), Crystal White Pearl sold 82 units (27.3 percent) and Crystal Black Silica sold 26 units (8.7 percent). Most buyers chose the 6-speed manual gearbox (235 units) and 65 with automatic transmissions were ordered.
The 300 2016 BRZ tS sport coupes were equipped with a number of upgrades to the chassis which are provided by STI. They feature a tuned suspension that includes larger STI-designed, black colored 18-inch aluminum wheels with 225/40ZR18 tires wrapped in Michelin Pilot Super Sport performance tires. Stopping power is provided by 17-inch Brembo 4-pot ventilated disc brakes in the front with STI logo and 17-inch Brembo 2-pot ventilated disc brake with STI logo in the rear.
STI enhanced the base BRZ’s chassis performance by using their expertise developed in its motorsport activities. The upgrades include STI-designed lateral link with pillow ball bush (front inside, rear inside), STI-tuned front suspension (inverted-strut front suspension) and coil springs, STI-tuned rear damper and coil springs, STI-designed flexible V-shaped bar, STI-designed flexible draw stiffener (front), STI-designed large-diameter drive shaft and exclusively tuned VDC (Vehicle Dynamics Control).
The new 2016 Subaru BRZ tS’s production was limited to 300 units and they went quickly in Japan. Other global markets will have to wait for their STI-enhanced BRZs. North America could see an STI model as early as next year. Stay tuned.
