What cars do the top 2016 Japan Cup Cycle Road Race teams choose to support their pro cyclists? Subaru’s WRX S4 and Levorg 2.0 GT-S.
The top teams in Japans biggest bicycle race will need fast support vehicles to keep up with the riders. That’s where Subaru comes in. Subaru will bring their 2017 WRX S4 performance sedan and Levorg 2.0 GT-S sports tourer to Japans 2016 Japan Cup Cycle Road Race to be the support vehicles for the road race.
Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI) manufacturer of Subaru vehicles has been involved with Japan’s biggest bicycle event for 22 years now. It’s on par with the Tour de France in Europe and features the world’s top cyclists. The high-performance Subaru WRX S4 and Levorg 2.0 GT-S are ideal vehicles for traveling without delay to the riders and helping with things like loading the equipment and the many spare bikes and wheels needed for mechanical trouble shooting during the race.
The support vehicle drivers will be able to put the 2017 WRX S4 to the test as they follow the cyclists who will travel at speeds of 80km/h on the downhill portions of the race course. There are many elevation changes throughout the course which will be held in Utsunomiya City near Forest Park. The 144.2km course to Gekiso includes a grueling mountain stage and also runs through major urban centers.
WRX S4 and Levorg are the perfect support vehicles
The Japan spec Subaru WRX S4 is powered by the same 2.0-liter engine that other global markets get, but it comes with more power. S4 is equipped with a new high performance 2.0-liter direct injection turbo "DIT" boxer engine that produces 221 kW (296 hp) and 400 Nm (295 lb. ft of torque).
The Levorg sports wagon (not available in the US) is also powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter Direct Injection engine, producing 197 Kilowatts of power (264hp) 350 Nm (258 lb. ft) of torque. It comes mated to a sport Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) like the WRX gets in the US. Subaru’s Intelligent (SI) Drive enables stepless shift control for a wide range of driving situations.
Fans can’t miss the bright yellow WRX S4 and Levorg
MAVIC who provides the yellow livery for the Subaru vehicles, is a French bicycle wheel manufacturer based in Annecy, France. MAVIC produces wheels, tires, rims and apparel for road and mountain bikes. The bright yellow WRX S4 and Levorg have been a big hit with the fans who attend the races.
This year marks the 25th year as the race has been held every year since 1992 in Utsunomiya near Gekiso. World class UCI teams from all over the globe will compete in the Japan Cup race that will be held October 21-23. Subaru is a special sponsor for the Japan Cup Cycle Road Race 2016 and will feature their 2017 WRX S4 performance sedan and Levorg 2.0 GT-S sports tourer to keep the teams running to the end.
