Tesla is going to succeed one day with FSD and autonomous vehicles. When this happens, the roads are going to get more congested as more people want to utilize this. Here's why The Boring Company will be essential to Tesla's FSD success.
Tesla Needs the Boring Company for FSD and Robotaxi
Autonomy may need some extra elements involved. The cars will eventually learn to drive themselves without passengers. Your time is less valuable in a self-driving car, but in a regular car, all your time is applied to driving the vehicle. You can't stop looking at the road. FSD lets us be in a car and concentrate on other things and that is valuable.
Drivers will pay a lot of extra for FSD and it will save people who drive a lot of time. An Uber will also do driving for you and free up your time, but it will be much less expensive to do it in an EV.
If you let a car drive itself around without any passengers, it no longer takes up your time. The reason for this is that the Tesla can just go around doing chores for you. This may increase congestion. Some cities could refuse autonomous vehicles in certain city limits.
With all vehicles working in unison, that may increase congestion, and there would need to be things setup to facilitate autonomy. It would do wonders for a city if goods and people could flow through a city with increased traffic from autonomy.
When Everyone Wants Autonomy
Eventually, when everyone can afford an autonomous vehicle, it might cause there to be a very congested set of roads. Since people will just send out their car to do whatever they need for them, it may take much longer to get to places due to the congestion.
Enter, The Boring Company. This is going to be a big part of autonomy, especially for busy cities. The main bottleneck will be rush hour traffic for autonomous vehicles. It will be difficult to get people to and from work and to places of living.
If you have tunnels, then you fix that problem. A straight tunnel is like a mini subway for cars and that is where most of the value lies. It is in dense, rich cities that can benefit from tunnels that connect parts of that city.
The tunnels would be singular destination focused and wouldn't have traffic lights or stop signs. There would just be straight lanes with strategic paths. The Boring company would be able to process robotaxis much faster than the regular roads could.
Would people pay for Boring tunnels more than the cost of a robotaxi? I think this is going to be the case. People will want to save time in busy cities. This could lead The Boring Company to become much larger than anyone thinks. Either way, the tunnels are going to be important for big cities to reduce congestion.
Will The Boring Company be a key to robotaxis? Will all big cities eventually have tunnels built beneath them?
