Audi has recalled nearly 49,000 2012-2014 A6 and A7 models to fix a fuel line problem. According to the automaker, the fuel lines in the affected vehicles are compressed at a point that could lead to their failure and a fuel leak. In turn, the fuel leak can pose a fire threat.
One of the common themes in National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recalls this year has been fuel leaks. More than one automaker has come up short in the design of their gas lines each of which could potentially lead to fires.
The latest automaker to join the list is Audi. According to the safety agency, Audi has recalled nearly 49,000 2012-14 A6 and A7 models due to a fuel line problem that could increase the risk of fires. According to the automaker, the recall is the result of an investigation of reports of gas line problems. The investigators found that the fuel line was squeezed together at a point that might weaken the fuel line and lead to its failure. All it would take, in this situation, is a spark and there could be a fire.
To remedy the situation, Audi will replace the fuel lines of affected vehicles. The recall is expected to begin Feb. 5, 2018. The automaker will notify owners of affected vehicles of the issue and they can then contact their dealers to schedule the free repair.
