The Top New Subaru Models With The Most American-Made Parts - Updated

How American is the 2023 Subaru Outback, Ascent, Impreza, and Legacy? See where they rank on the updated American-Made index.

Where do the newly-upgraded 2023 Subaru Outback midsize SUV, Ascent 3-Row SUV, Legacy midsize sedan, and Impreza compact car rank on the updated Cars.com American-Made index? All four models are made in America at the Subaru of Indiana Automotive plant, but how American are they? Since 1994 the American Automobile Labeling Act has required automakers to include content information on vehicle labels for cars and trucks produced for U.S. sale. According to the most recent document, the four Subaru models made in Lafayette, Indiana, now rank lower than last year. 2023 Subaru Ascent photo credit: Tucson Subaru How American is the 2023 Subaru Outback, Ascent, Impreza, and Legacy? Out of 100 models listed by Cars.com made at a U.S. assembly plant, the newly upgraded 2023 Subaru Ascent 3-Row family hauler is the most American-made Subaru model at number 84. The refreshed 2023 Subaru Outback midsize SUV ranks next at number 85, the Subaru Legacy sedan is number 86, and the Subaru Impreza compact car is not listed. It's likely because the Impreza is no longer manufactured in the U.S. Subaru of Indiana Automotive says, "The Subaru Impreza is now exclusively produced in Japan. This shift allowed Crosstrek production to start in the U.S. Currently, Subaru of Indiana Automotive produces the Ascent, Crosstrek, Legacy, and Outback." 2023 Subaru Outback The 2024 Crosstrek just started production this spring and will be included in next year's ranking. Subaru Indiana Automotive (SIA) makes around 35 percent of Subaru's total global vehicle output. Subaru of America is the Japanese automaker's largest market, selling nearly 70 percent of its vehicles. A previous year's Made in America Index said the Subaru Outback, Impreza, and 5-door compact each have just 45 percent U.S. content. The Subaru Ascent and Legacy have more U.S. content at 50 percent each. All four models import their major drivetrain parts, engine, and transmissions from Japan. The domestic content would be higher, but all four U.S.-made Subaru models import their major drivetrain parts, engine, and transmissions from Japan. The Subaru Outback, Impreza, and Legacy all have 40 percent of their parts shipped from Japan. The Ascent 3-Row family hauler has 30 percent of its parts coming from Japan. Compared with last year's ranking, the Subaru models dropped considerably in ranking. Out of 95 models listed by cars.com made at a U.S. assembly plant, the Subaru Ascent 3-Row SUV was number 70, the Subaru Outback midsize SUV ranked number 71, the Subaru Legacy sedan was number 72, and Subaru Impreza compact ranked 76th. Where does the 2022 Subaru Forester rank? The 2022 Subaru Forester compact SUV, WRX performance car, and BRZ sports coupe are built at the Japan plant and have zero percent U.S. parts. The newly-upgraded 2023 Subaru Ascent 3-Row family hauler is the most American-made Subaru vehicle, but not by much. Only the Crosstrek Wilderness is made in Indiana for the Canadian market
And all 2.5L Crosstrek models in the USA are made in Indiana
That's why I drive a Forester, 100% Japanese made and comes stanard with the 2.5L motor, it is as fast as gets the same MPG as the 2.5L Crosstrek Sport that cost $2,000 more to get the 2.5L motor vs the base Forester, only 120 lb heavier than the Crosstrek and the same interior room as the Outback, but you would never know it to look at them side by side, but numbers don't lie
That is why the Forester has the best resale value
Look up the MSRP of all of them from 2019 (5 years old) around 100,000 km's each base models
Then look what they retail for
