The 2020 Nissan Versa is available in 3 trim levels that come in highly affordable prices. Let's take a look at the 2020 Versa's three versions and why Nissan has a unique opportunity with this entry-level subcompact sedan.

Nissan has a very unique opportunity with the 2020 Versa.

While the Gen X, Millennials and multicultural customers still love the subcompact segment, the most carmakers have chosen to abandon subcompact sedans. They now mostly focus only on hatchbacks.

For example, consider the cases of the Hyundai, Mitsubishi and Toyota. In 2020 these popular carmakers have decided to respectively abandon the sedan versions of the Accent , Mirage and Yaris. This gives Nissan the edge and the Japanese automaker could see a big opportunity here.

In order for Nissan to take advantage over this opportunity it needs 3 things. First it needs to have an attractive price for the 2020 Versa because one of the main problems with the subcompact sedans is too often at the level of price overlap with a compact sedan, which is hardly more expensive. The 2020 Nissan Versa has an attractive price, which we will discuss below. 2nd, it needs a good design. Nissan's "Emotional Geometry" exterior design is much more than you normally see in an entry-level sedan. It also has an unexpectedly roomy interior. It truly leaves a lasting first impression. The 3rd it needs safety features. In this regard, the 2020 Versa really stands out with the Nissan's Intelligent Mobility Safetey Technology.

2020 Versa's Trim Levels and Prices

The 2020 Nissan Versa comes in 3 trim levels: S, SV and SR (read the 2020 Nissan Versa SR review here). All of these versions are well-equipped models. Let's look at these three versions and their prices.

1. The Versa S comes in 5-speed manual and Xtronic transmission. It has a 1.6-liter DOHC 16-Valve 4-Cylinider engine and high beam assist. The Versa S trim has an automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning and rear automatic braking. The starting MSRP price of the 2020 Nissan Versa S is $14,730.

2. The Versa SV has a few more features. In addition to Versa S features, the SV also has 16" aluminum-alloy wheels, premium cloth seat trim and NissanConnect 7" Touch-Screen display. The SV trim also has heated outside mirrors with LED turn signal indicator and blind spot warning. The starting MSRP price of the 2020 Nissan SV trim is $17,640.

3. The 2020 Versa SR is called a Convenience Package. It features sporty SR seat fabric with interior trim. The Versa SR trim has a 17" split 5-spoke aluminum-alloy heels, sport cloth seat trim and body-color rear spoiler. It also has Nissan Intelligent Key with remote engine start system as well as LED headlights with LED signature. The starting MSRP price of the 2020 Nissan Versa SR trim is $18,240.

While Torque News plans to do another story discussing the changes of the 2020 Nissan Versa, I would like to conclude this article about the trims of the 2020 Versa with the following. One of the main characters that distinguishes the 2020 Versa from its previous generation models is that it has an increased interior space, especially in the trunk, which offers a larger volume than some compact sedans.

Speaking of the roomy interior of the 2020 Nissan Versa, one of the trims offers heated seats. The SR Convenience Package option offers heated seats. In fact, the 2020 Versa SR also features nice looking sporty SR seat fabric with interior trim and accents.

Generally the exterior dimensions of the 2020 Versa are longer than its previous generation. This contributes to the roominess of the interior. The Versa SR trim also features LED low and high beam headlights, LED signature lamps and fot lights. but the headlamps with auto on/off feature are standard in all trims. The 2020 Versa includes other exterior features, such as heated side mirrors with integrated turn signals and body-color exterior door handles (SV, SR grades).

Lots to like about the new Versa. I went to go see it, but can't get past the cramped interior, compromised visibility, and lack of power with no available optional engine. Shame that nobody wants to build a subcompact worth buying, and does not just make an easy argument to move up a class.
