Toyota Sequoia has been updated for the year 2023. This SUV now uses the same basic parts as other big vehicles made by Toyota, like the Tundra, Land Cruiser, and the Lexus LX600. Unlike before, it only comes as a hybrid, which means it has both an electric motor and a gas engine. It also has a new appearance inside and outside the car.
Prepare to be wowed by the all-new Toyota Sequoia, arriving for the 2023 model year. This full-size, three-row SUV has undergone a complete transformation, leaving its outdated second-generation behind. But one thing remains the same: it's still based on the Tundra pickup truck platform. That's right, the new Sequoia has gotten a complete overhaul, from the inside out.
With the Tundra's iForce MAX hybrid powertrain, boasting a 3.4-liter V-6 engine combined with an electric motor, this Sequoia delivers an impressive 437 horsepower. And that's just the beginning. The interior features the latest software on a large touchscreen, providing an ultra-modern feel. Plus, with seating for up to eight passengers, you can bring along the whole gang for the ride. However, don't let the new tech distract you from the Sequoia's practicality struggles. Despite its modern upgrades, the interior space and cargo area remain a hindrance, giving competitors such as the Chevy Tahoe and Ford Expedition an edge. Are you ready to experience the new Sequoia for yourself?
2023 Toyota Sequoia Trims and Pricing
The 2023 Toyota Sequoia offers a range of trims with varying prices. The base SR5 trim starts at $59,960, while the top-of-the-line TRD Pro and Capstone trims cost $77,660 and $76,960, respectively. The Platinum trim falls in the middle, costing $72,560. It's worth noting that all trims come with the same iForce MAX hybrid powertrain, boasting a 3.4-liter V-6 engine combined with an electric motor, which delivers 437 horsepower.
Despite the varying prices, the Limited trim appears to offer the best value for the money. With a price tag of $66,360, it comes with a host of additional features as standard. These include a larger 14.0-inch touchscreen, a power liftgate, 20-inch wheels, heated-and-cooled front seats, and a power-folding third row.
These features make the Limited trim a compelling choice for buyers looking for a good balance of features and price. However, for those looking for a more off-road-focused experience, the TRD Pro trim may be the way to go, with its specialized suspension, skid plates, and all-terrain tires.
2023 Sequoia Exterior Design
This three-row SUV continues to share its mechanicals and most of its styling cues with the automaker's full-size pickup, meaning it features Toyota's latest design direction.
From the front, the Tundra resemblance is evident thanks to the large grille and distinctive headlights that include a T-shaped daytime running light.
Seen from the side, the strong character lines and the various folds of the bodywork contribute to giving the new Sequoia a more robust look that hints at its capabilities.
Interior and Cargo Space of the 2023 Sequoia
Step into the 2023 Toyota Sequoia and experience the grandiosity of its spacious interior. This latest generation of the Sequoia maintains its reputation as one of the largest SUVs on the market. A standard third row of seats makes it easy to accommodate your entire crew, but beware of limited headroom in the back rows, especially if you opt for the panoramic sunroof. However, if you're looking for luxury, you'll find a range of trims to choose from, each offering distinct upholstery, wood, and chrome options as you ascend the price ladder. The top trims come with features such as heated and cooled second-row seats, a panoramic sunroof, and a high-quality stereo system that will transport you to a world of sound.
When it comes to cargo space, the Sequoia falls short of its competitors. With only 12 cubic feet of cargo space when the third row is in use, you may find yourself struggling to fit everything in. Additionally, folding down the third row doesn't result in a flat load floor, which can be a major inconvenience for loading larger items. Despite these limitations, the Sequoia makes up for its smaller cargo area with its sheer size and impressive passenger capacity. Although cargo space may be limited, the range of trims and features will surely impress those who prioritize luxury and comfort.
Infotainment and Safety
As you embark on your journey with the 2023 Toyota Sequoia, get ready to be wowed by its advanced infotainment system. Say goodbye to the dated touchscreen of the old Sequoia and say hello to the impressive 14.0-inch touchscreen found in the Tundra. This gigantic screen is standard on all but the base SR5 and features Toyota's latest infotainment software.
You can also enjoy seamless smartphone-mirroring and a plethora of connectivity options including a Wi-Fi hotspot and various music-streaming options. Get ready to be entertained and stay connected on the go with this sophisticated infotainment system.
Safety is a top priority for the 2023 Toyota Sequoia, and it shows in its impressive range of driver-assistance features that come standard across all trims. Enjoy peace of mind with standard forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking, which can help prevent or mitigate collisions.
The 2023 Sequoia also comes with standard lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist to help you stay on track and avoid drifting off course. Take the stress out of your long drives with standard adaptive cruise control, which maintains a safe distance from the vehicle ahead of you. With these features and more, the 2023 Toyota Sequoia is sure to provide a safe and enjoyable driving experience.
Engine and Transmission
The 2023 Toyota Sequoia is powered by a hybrid powertrain that combines a twin-turbo 3.4-liter V-6 engine with an electric motor to produce a total output of 437 hp and 583 pound-feet of torque. The powertrain is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission that is carried over from the Tundra. The standard drivetrain is rear-wheel drive, while four-wheel drive is available as an option on most versions of the Sequoia. The off-road-oriented TRD Pro model comes standard with four-wheel drive and features off-road equipment like upgraded Fox dampers, a front skid plate, a locking rear differential, and forged 18-inch wheels with 33-inch tires.
During our initial test drive of the Sequoia, we found that the SUV has a comfortable ride and a quiet cabin. However, ithe extra-wide feeling of the vehicle on the road can make it difficult to place in a lane. The new Toyota Sequoia is a capable performer that accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.6 seconds and completes the quarter-mile in 14.3 seconds at 94 mph. While it may not be the quickest in its class, it still performs better than some of its competitors, like the GMC Yukon Denali. When we have the opportunity to put the Sequoia through its paces at our test track, we'll update this story with our test results.
Fuel Economy
The 2023 Toyota Sequoia's iForce MAX hybrid powertrain contributes to impressive fuel economy figures compared to its previous model. The rear-wheel-drive models achieve an EPA rating of 21 mpg in the city, 24 mpg on the highway, and 22 mpg combined. Meanwhile, four-wheel-drive versions have a slightly lower fuel efficiency of 19 mpg in the city, 22 mpg on the highway, and 20 mpg combined.
Overall, the Sequoia's fuel economy numbers are impressive, especially when considering the size and capability of this large SUV. This fuel efficiency can lead to significant cost savings over time, making the Sequoia an attractive choice for those seeking a powerful yet efficient vehicle.
