The Buick brand has seen strong growth over the past year thanks to new models like the LaCrosse, Enclave and the Regal with the 2012 Buick Verano expected to help this affordably luxury brand to enter the C-segment – with more success expected with the recently announced 2012 Verano MSRP of $23,470 (with the $885 destination fee).
General Motors is targeting models like the Lexus IS250 and the Acura TSX which carry starting prices of $30,495 and $34,170, respectively, making the 2012 Buick Verano a great deal less expensive than the Japanese competition. Buick is planning three trimlines for the 2012 Verano, all of which will be powered by the 2.4L 4-cylinder engine that sends 180 hp and 171 lb/ft of torque to the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission. General Motors hasn’t offered any indication as to what kind of model designations (if any) will be used but in addition to the entry level Verano, the premium level Verano will carry a price of $26,850. This package is expected to include an interior treatment like the flagship LaCrosse with similar leather appointments to the seats and steering wheel including automatic heating features in climates below 45 degrees when the remote start system is used. The heated steering wheel option in the 2012 Buick Verano isn’t available on the Lexus IS250 – even in their most expensive models while the highline Verano costs less than the entry level Lexus.
The 2012 Buick Verano is based on the underpinning and drivetrain of the Chevrolet Cruze but with distinct sheet metal (and fiberglass), the Verano offers far more luxury inside and a look in line with the other popular Buick models. To help the Verano achieve the upscale look, this C-segment Buick will include blue projection headlights, fog lamps, and 18” aluminum wheels on the outside with premium materials throughout the interior and sound deadening efforts made to offer a quiet ride that you would expect from a luxury car. Overall, while Buick made sure that the 2012 Verano looks great (and nothing like the Chevy Cruze) while offering interior comfort and amenities to make it worthy of being considered along top selling luxury models from around the world – all at a vastly lower price.
