The 2011 Detroit Auto Show brought us the introduction to the newest Honda Civic Concept in coupe and sedan form and according to AutoWeek, these concepts will be introduced as the 2012 Honda Civic sedan and coupe in April with an array of engine options including a natural gas, hybrid and Si trimline.
Honda has not given a clear indication as to which engines will be available when the 2012 Civic is launched in April but we know that the sedan and coupe “concepts” from the Detroit Auto Show will be available with multiple gasoline engines; one of which will be the performance oriented mill in the 2012 Civic Si. There will also be a new Civic Hybrid using a lithium ion battery system to boost fuel economy and another Civic NGV (natural gas vehicle) for those who want to avoid the rising gas prices by utilizing the scarce natural gas infrastructure.
The exterior of the 2012 Civic sedan and coupe are not a vast change from the current models but there is a distinctly more-aggressive design to the front and rear fascias and the 2012 Civic offers a sportier look overall. However, inside the 2012 Honda Civic will offer more room for passengers and cargo without expanding the dimensions of this legendary compact lineup.
The Honda Civic was once the dominating force in the compact car segment but ever increasing levels of competition – especially from Ford and Chevrolet – is forcing Honda to make more frequent adjustments to the model to keep up with the Jones’. The 2012 Honda Civic lineup looks to offer sporty styling typically expected from the performance trimlines across the entire lineup as the compact sedan and coupe segment move away from their reputation for bland styling.
