The Chrysler Group has rolled out the changes to their 2012 Ram Truck brand lineup and the big news is the 2012 Ram Tradesman Heavy Duty – which offers best in class towing and hauling numbers in a low cost package that is easier for small businesses to swallow.
The Heavy Duty name is usually reserved for the Ram Truck brand’s 2500 and 3500 lineup but for the 2012 model year, the new Tradesman HD has been introduced for the Ram half ton lineup. Standard options of the 2012 Ram 1500 Tradesman include a regular cab, an 8 foot foot bed and rear wheel drive so there isn’t a great deal of customization available right now for the Tradesman HD but that doesn’t matter. What does matter is what the new Tradesman HD can do…with towing and hauling numbers that have never before been seen from the half-ton full sized truck segment. With help from the 5.7L Hemi V8 that churns out 383 horsepower and 400lb-ft of torque, the 2012 Ram Tradesman HD can tow a class leading 11,500lbs while being able to haul 3,100lbs.
These specs make the 2012 Ram 1500 Tradesman HD stronger than the most powerful Ford F150, GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado for the 2012 model year, although if history has taught us anything it is that one of the other two companies will be quick to announce new towing and hauling numbers to knock off the Ram. However, with the new Ram offering 200 more pounds of towing capabilities than the Ford and 800 more pounds than the GMC or Chevy, while the hauling numbers allow the Tradesman HD to carry just 40 pounds more than the F150 but with an advantage of 1,235 over the GM half ton picks – the Ram 1500 Tradesman HD is the king of the hill among the half ton pickup segment.
Fred Diaz, President and CEO of the Ram Truck Brand and Chrysler of Mexico offer this comment on the powerful new Tradesman HD:
"The Ram 1500 Tradesman Heavy Duty is a job-rated truck with the features commercial truck buyers want at a price they can afford," said Fred Diaz, President and CEO – Ram Truck Brand and Chrysler de Mexico, Chrysler Group LLC. "The commercial truck segment is all about total cost of ownership and that includes being able to tow and haul more. It's a simple matter of economics. More towing and payload means fewer loads. And fewer loads mean lower fuel bills."
