Yesterday after, the DriveSRT Facebook page posted a picture of a 2013 SRT Viper sitting under a canopy at what looks to be a race track and today, thanks to a reader from Car and Driver – we have video footage of the new Viper GTS tearing around Gingerman Raceway in Michigan.
There have been a handful of videos floating around the internet offering a good example of the exhaust tone of the 2013 SRT Viper but this new video (shown below) is the first to give us a look at the new supercar on a race track. While only 25 seconds long, this new video also gives us an awesome sample of what the 640 horsepower V10 sounds like under load when it is not limited by pesky speed limits. The video also shows us the 2013 SRT Viper GTS as it effortlessly cruises through a hard right hand turn followed by a longer, sweeping right hand turn as the Viper races off into the distance. There is some wind noise in the video but the new Viper still sounds simply awesome.
According to the Car and Driver reader who provided the video below, the Chrysler Group had three 2013 SRT Viper coupes at Gingerman Raceway along with a film crew – which means that we are likely to see more footage from Gingerman in the near future. Chevrolet has put together some fantastic commercial segments including the Corvette ZR1 on the track so it would only make sense that Chrysler will including footage of the Viper roaring around a race course in their own adrenaline-inspiring commercials.
In addition to the dark red 2013 SRT Viper GTS shown in the video below, there was also the bright red non-GTS Viper sporting red stripes that the DriveSRT Facebook page featured last night, shown above on the right. The DriveSRT FB page stated that the Viper shown was a pre-production model being used as engineering prototype and that it had recently passed its dry track stability control system testing “with flying colors”. If this red and white Viper was indeed a non-GTS Viper and it was being tested for dry track stability testing, the dark red Viper GTS shown in the video below could have been performing the same tests but that higher end Viper includes the new dual mode adjustable suspension.
Considering that the SRT marketing people commented about the testing procedure, we would speculate that these three 2013 SRT Vipers were being used for testing purposes but at the same time – the sexy high performance footage captured by the aforementioned film crew could be used for promotional videos. Regardless of whether Chrysler was performing testing, shooting commercial footage or taking down two birds with one stone – the resulting video courtesy of Car and Driver is some tasty eye candy for Mopar lovers who are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new supercar.
