General Motors looks to introduced the theory of "rugged luxury" with the new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country – a loaded up luxury version of the new Silverado 1500 that can still do all of the hard work of the rest of the lineup with a price starting at $45,100.

We have known for some time now that GM was planning a new top of the line luxury trimline and with the introduction of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado High Country – that new range topping Chevy half ton pickup is here. The Silverado High Country is only available in a four door crew cab and that cab configuration is exclusive to the High Country package, mated to the buyer’s choice of a 5’8” of 6’6” bed. When fitted with the standard 5.3L V8 engine, a 6-speed automatic transmission and rear wheel drive, the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado High Country carries a starting MSRP of $45,100 including destination.

On the outside, the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country features lots of chrome to give this truck a very high end look. A big, bold chrome grille specific to the High Country package is flanked by a set of chrome trimmed projection headlights to form a very bright face while chrome exterior mirrors, door handles, side moldings, 20 inch chrome wheels and badging all around leaves no question that this chromed out truck is a luxury model. On the inside, the High Country package features a saddle brown interior layout that is exclusive to this new package with heated and cooled front leather seats, embroidered High Country logos on the headrests, an 8 inch infotainment touch screen, park assist and a Bose premium sound system. Buyers can also equip their 2014 Silverado 1500 High Country with optional features including a sunroof, navigation, a rear seat entertainment system, a heated steering wheel, adjustable pedals and an integrated trailer brake controller.

“There’s a Western flair to the High Country’s cabin that reflects the truck’s polished yet rugged stature,” said Maria Rohrer, Silverado marketing director. “It’s a passenger environment that’s equally adept when working a ranch during the day and stepping out for the evening.”

The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country is powered by the standard 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 with 355 horsepower and 383lb-ft of torque but those buyers who demand more power and greater capability can opt for the new 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 that packs 420 horsepower and 460lb-ft of torque – an engine that makes the 2014 Silverado 1500 the most powerful half ton truck sold in America today. Those who are happy with the 355hp of the standard 5.3L V8 will also enjoy having among the best fuel economy in the modern truck segment with class leading figures of 23 miles per gallon on the highway.

“Silverado High Country adds a higher degree of capability to the premium truck market and broadens the all-new Silverado’s lineup with a unique combination of exclusive features and purposeful technologies,” said Rohrer. “Its class-leading power is matched with the strong chassis and new suspension and drivetrain elements that make the 2014 Silverado 1500 the strongest, most capable and most refined truck in Chevrolet’s history.”

With a starting price of $45,100, the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country is less expensive than the top of the line Ford F150 Limited and the Ram 1500 Laramie Limited but it is slightly pricier than the almost-top-of-the-line F150 Platinum and the Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn. Because of those step down packages from Ford and Ram, it won’t be an easy battle for the Silverado High Country to rule the luxury half ton truck segment but for GM truck lovers who want a luxury pickup without the cost of the GMC Sierra Denali – the High Country package could be an idea new offering.
