When the 2012 Cadillac SRX hits the streets later this year, it will be powered by a new 3.6L V6 churning out 308 horsepower – more power than either of the 2011 model year engines offered – but that comes with a slight price increase as the 2012 SRX starts at $36,060 including a destination charge of $875.
The 2011 Cadillac SRX comes with a starting price of $35,490 so there is a very minor price increase for the 2012 models but $570 is a small price to pay for the additional horsepower. Keep in mind, the base price for the 2011 SRX included the 3.0L V6, which offers just 265 horsepower so for $570, 2012 SRX buyers will be paying around $14 bucks per horsepower – that’s a heck of a deal. General Motors’ press release doesn’t go into too much detail but we can expect this entry level model to include a front wheel drive setup and a 6-speed automatic transmission, when coupled with the new 3.6L V6 will offer at least similar (if not better) fuel economy than the outgoing engines. In addition to the new engine using variable valve timing to improve fuel economy, the 2012 SRX will also feature a driver-selectable Eco mode that will help to further improve the fuel consumption levels of the new Caddy crossover. It should also be pointed out that with 308 horsepower (8 more than the premium turbocharged engine option in the 2011 models), the 2012 SRX costs over $13,000 less than the 2.8T version of the 2011 models - but the current price includes an advanced all wheel drive system for which we do not yet know the price.
The SRX has proven to be one of the Cadillac brand’s bestselling models and having spent some time in a 2011 model with the 2.8L turbocharged V6 – there is little question why this compact SUV has become so popular. The SRX has tons of room for passengers and cargo but for the driver – it feels more like a sedan than a bulky SUV – both in acceleration and handling. I personally loved the turbo V6 in the current SRX but with the success of the 3.6L V6 in so many other GM models, the 3.6L V6 should do a fine job of powering the 2012 Cadillac SRX.
Some other changes for the 2012 Cadillac SRX include standard Bluetooth on all models (further making that $570 increase less of an issue), an optional heated steering wheel, a new Xenon Blue Metallic exterior paint choice, an all black interior option with contrasting stitching, and a new 20-inch wheel finish option.
