When the 2011 Ford Mustang V6 was introduced, the new 3.7L V6 made this the most powerful entry level Mustang of all time but thanks to the Mustang tuning gurus at American Muscle, we have our first example of a new V6 Mustang breaking into the 11 second quarter mile range.
American Muscle has been building high performance “shop cars” for years while providing Ford Mustang owners around the country with the go-fast parts to make their Mustang perform as well as AM’s highly tuned shop cars. While 305 horsepower makes the 2011 Ford Mustang V6 the most powerful entry level Mustang of all time (and also the most fuel efficient with a rating of 31mpg), 305hp isn’t enough for today’s racers so the folks at American Muscle of Malvern, Pennsylvania took to modifying their 2011 Mustang V6 shop car to see just how much work it took to get this fuel-sipping entry level Mustang into the 11 second quarter mile range.
American Muscle began by taking the stock 2011 Ford Mustang V6 coupe (automatic transmission) and adding a complete high flowing exhaust system including BBK Long Tube Headers, a BBK Off-Road X-Pipe and Borla Atak Axle-Back Exhaust to allow the 3.7L V6 to breath better. Helping to force more air into this new V6 is a Procharger Tuner Supercharger Kit with 80# injectors added to provide the right amount of fuel to make the most out of all of that forced air. Once the power was where American Muscle wanted it, they looked to make sure that they could use all of that newfound power, adding J&M Fixed Lower Control Arms, JPC Adjustable Upper Control Arm, Racestar Skinny Front Wheels and Racestar Wheels with Mickey Thompson ET drag radials. A set of 3.73 gears helps to increase the acceleration of the 2011 V6 Mustang and when the team from American Muscle hit the track at Cecil County Dragway recently they hit their goal – becoming the first 2011 V6 Mustang to run the quarter mile in the 11 second range.
American Muscle’s 2011 Ford Mustang V6 became the first 3.7L-powered Mustang in the 11s with a time of 11.94 at a trap speed of 115.93 miles per hour. Later this same day when the sun had set and the air had gotten a little cooler, American Muscle hit the track once more – backing up their previous 11.94 with a run of 11.90 at 116.12 miles per hour and making this the quickest new V6 Ford Mustang in the world.
The folks at American Muscle have plans to continue to modify their 2011 Ford Mustang V6 shop car and with a relatively small amount of work done so far, we could see more record-setting times from the PA-based Mustang tuner over the next few months as the new Duratec 37 engine continues to show that this smaller engine is about more than just fuel economy and lower insurance rates.
