Posts on social media suggest that the 2018 Ford Mustang has begun reaching dealerships around the country and when the cars hit at full force, the Motor Company will almost surely see another big spike in muscle car sales.
The 2018 Ford Mustang is refreshed inside and out, with one less engine option and more power for the turbocharged 4-cylinder EcoBoost and the 5.0L V8. The facelift coupled with new technology and more power will almost certainly lead to a surge in Mustang sales, although it might take a month or so before this surge shows up on the company’s sales report.
The Expected Mustang Sales Surge
When the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang hit dealerships back in November of 2014, the Motor Company enjoyed a surge in sales for almost two years. During that time, the 2015 Mustang posted some monster sales numbers, topping out at 13,616 units in May 2015. However, sales numbers for the Mustang has slipped a bit, especially since the 2018 models were first introduced.
Any time a new model with significant improvements is unveiled, there is generally a lull in sales of the current models while prospective buyers wait for the next big thing. In this case, 2017 Mustang sales have dropped a bit while hopeful buyers wait for the 2018 models to arrive. Of course, there are also people who wait for deeper discounts on the 2017 models, which will happen when the 2018s are readily available, and those big discounts on the previous version will lead to an increase in sales as well.
In addition to those hopeful Mustang buyers who are either waiting for the 2018 models to arrive or for big discounts on the 2017 models, there will be buyers who see the new model on the road and fall in love with it. Not every 2018 Mustang buyer is waiting for the new car to arrive, but when they do begin hitting dealerships and roads around the US, folks considering a new muscle car might find themselves running to their local Ford store for the refreshed pony car.
2018 Ford Mustang Performance
The 2018 Ford Mustang gets a new look and a more-premium interior, the big story with the new pony car is the added power and improved performance of the Mustang GT. The base-model Mustang EcoBoost gets a little more power and slightly better performance, but with 460hp and 420lb-ft of torque, the 2018 Mustang GT is considerably more powerful than the 2017 version in both power metrics. More importantly, when paired with the new 10-speed automatic transmission and the Level 2 Performance Pack, the new Mustang GT will blast from 0-60 in “under four seconds”.
We don’t know how far into the 4s it will be, but the 2018 Ford Mustang GT is the best-performing volume package of the legendary performance car and that should lead to a big batch of buyers who want a whole lot of bang for their buck.
