The 2017 Dodge Charger benefits from a pair of new Daytona models and after seeing some confusion online as to how the new Charger Daytona fits into the lineup – we wanted to put together a piece detailing each of the trimlines for Dodge’s muscle sedan.
The Dodge Charger is the bestselling rear wheel drive sedan in America by a comfortable margin and the company has achieved this sales success by offering a spread of big sedans which offer something for everyone. There are efficient V6 models and winter-friendly all-wheel drive models, as well as a spread of Hemi-powered packages ranging from the 370 horsepower Charger R/T to the 707 horsepower Hellcat. For 2017, Dodge rolled out the Daytona and Daytona 392 models, bringing higher levels of performance in value packages and adding another pair of great options for those sedan shoppers who like going fast.
For ease of explanation, we have split the 2017 Charger trimlines up by engine size, with a quick rundown on the key features and the base MSRP of each package, including destination.
The 2017 Chargers with the 3.6L Pentastar V6
First up, the 2017 Dodge Charger is offered in two trimlines with the 3.6L Pentastar V6 – the SE and SXT – both of which come with 292 horsepower and an 8-speed automatic transmission. Also, both of these packages are available with all-wheel drive and with no Hemi/AWD packages for 2017, these are the only AWD Chargers for this model year.
The Charger SE comes with a few premium features, such as the reconfigurable 7 inch driver information screen, the 5 inch UConnect touchscreen infotainment system, 17 inch aluminum wheels, LED-trimmed headlights, LED-trimmed taillights and the Keyless Enter’n’Go system with push button ignition. This package starts at $29,090 for the rear-drive package and the AWD Charger SE starts at $31,340.
The 2017 Charger SXT package adds the premium 8.4 inch UConnect infotainment system, satellite radio, 18 inch aluminum wheels, LED fog lights, heated front cloth sport seats with power driver’s side adjustment, dual zone climate control, remote start, an auto dimming rear view mirror and a six speaker sound system with a 276 watt amplifier. The Charger SXT starts at $31,090 for rear-drive and the AWD Charger SXT starts at $33,090.
The 2017 Chargers with the 5.7L Hemi
Next up, the 2017 Dodge Charger is offered in two trimlines with the 5.7L Hemi – the R/T and the Daytona – both of which come with 370 horsepower, 395lb-ft of torque and a standard 8-speed automatic transmission.
The 2017 Dodge Charger R/T package includes the 20 inch aluminum wheels, paddle shifters on the steering wheel, Sport driving mode, performance suspension, integrated dual exhaust, a rear spoiler and the interior features of the SXT package, includes the 8.4 inch UConnect infotaiment system and the heated cloth sport bucket seats. The Charger R/T starts at $35,885.
New for 2017 is the Dodge Charger Daytona, which builds on the Charger R/T with a handful of components from the Scat Pack, SRT 392 and Hellcat models. The 2017 Daytona package is elaborate, adding 2.75 inch active exhaust system, a Mopar cold air intake package, a 2.62 rear gear ratio, the Super Track Pak (sport tuned suspension, performance brake pads, a unique stability control system with a “full off” setting and Goodyear Eagle F1 tires), the SRT front and rear fascia, the SRT side sills, the SRT rear spoiler and hood of the Charger SRT models, unique black Daytona and Hemi graphics, a blacked out roof, unique 20 inch wheels and heated/cooled Nappa leather seats with the Daytona logo embroidered on the seatback This new Dodge Charger Daytona starts at $40,985.
The 2017 Charger 392 Models
The third engine in the 2017 Dodge Charger lineup is the 392 cubic inch, 6.4L Hemi, which delivers 485 horsepower and 475lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels via the 8-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission. This drivetrain is offered in the R/T Scat Pack, the new Daytona 392 and the SRT 392.
The 2017 Dodge Charger R/T Scat Pack is arguably the best option in the lineup in terms of bang for your buck, serving as more of a dressed down SRT 392 model than a dressed up Charger R/T The Scat Pack package adds the SRT body kit and hood, unique 20 inch wheels wrapped in performance tires, a high performance Bilstein suspension setup, heated cloth sport bucket seats and the premium 8.4 inch UConnect infotainment system. The 2017 Charger R/T Scat Pack starts at $41,090.
Next we have the new Daytona 392 package, which is built on the R/T Scat Pack. The Daytona 392 package adds the 2.75 inch active exhaust, package-specific exterior badging, sport suspension, the huge Brembo brake package from the Hellcat Charger, unique 20 inch wheels wrapped in the Hellcat Pirelli tires and a 180mph speedometer. The 2017 Charger Daytona 392 starts at $46,090.
Finally, we have the 2017 Dodge Charger SRT 392, which includes the 3-mode adaptive Bilstein suspension setup, the Hellcat brakes, 20x9.5 inch wheels wrapped in high performance tires, heated/cooled Nappa leather seats with Alcantara centers, the SRT drive mode system, a flat bottom steering wheel and the package specific badging inside and out. The Charger SRT 392 starts at $52,240.
The Hellcat
Last, but most certainly not least, we have the 2017 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat. This car needs little introduction, but for the sake of discussion, it comes with the 707 horsepower supercharged Hellcat Hemi, the heavy duty 8-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission, the massive Brembo braking package (6 pistons/15.4” rotors up front, 6 pistons/14” rotors out back), the adaptive suspension system, the premium interior layout and unique lightweight 5-spoke wheels wrapped in high performance rubber.
The Hellcat Charger is the quickest, fastest and most powerful sedan in the world, with a premium interior layout which makes it more like a luxury car than a muscle car. Getting into the world’s strongest sedan will start at $68,740 (including destination and gas guzzler tax).
