Last week we brought you the news of the 1,032 horsepower Hennessey HPE1000 package for the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and after receiving a handful of questions from readers, we are happy to report that the Hellcat Charger can also be equipped with monster twin turbo, triple charging upgrade package.
Last week, we talked about the Hennessey HPE1000 twin turbo/triple-charging package for the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat after the Texas-based tuning company announced the availability on their official Facebook page. No mention was made in that post of the Dodge Charger, but we reached out to the team at Hennessey and got more information on the HPE1000 package for the Challenger and Charger.
Hennessey HPE1000 Hellcat Charger
The Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat is powered by the same supercharged 6.2L Hemi that powers the Challenger, with 707hp and 650lb-ft of torque making it the most powerful production sedan in the world. The ability to get into the 10 second quarter mile range and a top speed over 200 miles per hour make the Hellcat Charger the quickest and fastest production internal combustion engine sedan in the world, but some people need lots more power – and Hennessey can help.
The HPE1000 package for the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat is identical to the similarly named package for the Challenger, with the heart of the build being the twin turbo setup that is added in front of the factory supercharger system. To be clear, the HPE1000 Charger is both supercharged and twin turbocharged, and the total output is 1,032 horsepower and 987lb-ft of torque at the transmission (not wheel horsepower).
In addition to the twin turbochargers, the HPE1000 package adds stainless steel exhaust manifolds and downpipes, an air to water intercooler system, all of the piping needed to run the compressed air from the turbos to the intercooler and into the throttle body, a new air filter, larger fuel injectors, a high volume fuel pump and a proper engine tune to bring everything together. Basically, headers, turbos, an intercooler, a new fuel system and a tune lift the Hellcat Charger from 707 to 1,032 horsepower at 15 pounds of boost. Oh, and that output is running on Shell V-Power 93 octane gasoline.
Finally, in addition to the bits needed to make 1,032 horsepower, the HPE1000 Hellcat Charger package includes installation, all of the fasteners, gaskets and fluids needed for installation, chassis dyno testing with before and after graphs, Hennessey badges, HPE1000 badges, Twin Turbo badges, an interior serial plaque signed by John Hennessey, an engine bay plaque signed by the HPE technician who builds the car, Hennessey floor mats, a Certificate of Authenticity with the serial number of each vehicle signed by John Hennessey, a lifetime membership in the Hennessey Vehicle Registry and a 1 year, 12,000 mile limited warranty.
When the 2015-2016 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat is fitted with the HPE1000 package, a set of drag radial tires and a good driver, Hennessey expects this beast to get from a stop to 60 in just 2.7 seconds. When you hit the quarter mile, that should translate to a 9.9 ET at 142 miles per hour.
Price and Exclusivity
The Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat with the HPE1000 will be a head-turner thanks to the unique triple-charging system, but that big power and unique layout comes with a big price - $55,000. There have been rumors online that the package costs $45k, but those figures are a bit light compared to the numbers that I received directly from John Hennessey himself.
Some critics online with access to a good, reliable performance shop will point out that you can get over a thousand horsepower from your Hellcat Charger for far less than $55,000 from the guy down the street, but for those who do not have access to a good local shop, this package could be ideal. Also, since the HPE1000 Charger package is limited to just 12 units, these twin turbo and supercharger Mopar muscle cars will have a greater collectable value in the future – so you are paying for more than just big power. A 1,000 horsepower Challenger that you piece together in your garage or at your local shop won’t carry the future value that you will get with the Hennessey HPE1000 package, complete with full certification.
Unfortunately, there don’t seem to be any videos online of the HPE1000 package in action, but considering how many great videos of their products Hennessey has, I expect that we will eventually get to see these twin turbo/supercharged American muscle cars in action.
No mention of transmission,
No mention of transmission, differential, axles, or wheel and tire upgrades, all of which would be required to handle this much power. Dumb concept right from the start. Just because you CAN build something doesn't mean that you should. I'll bet they make and maybe sell all of about 1 of them.
I would like to buy one. Can
I would like to buy one. Can I get pricing and availabity?
Thanks, Bill.
