The 2014 Dodge Charger Pursuit AWD has gone through its first round of competitive police vehicle evaluation tests and when pitted head to head with other cars in the segment at Grattan Raceway – the new Charger Pursuit is the fastest all wheel drive police car to tackle the course.
The 2014 Dodge Charger Pursuit AWD recently underwent the full testing procedure of the Michigan State Police at Grattan Raceway in Belding Michigan and when the dust settled – the newest Dodge cop car was not just the fastest AWD option in the current class but it is also the fastest all wheel drive police car ever in the MSP tests. This is significant because Ford’s highest performance police interceptor is a Taurus SHO-based car that comes exclusively with all wheel drive along with the 3.5L EcoBoost V6. The rear wheel drive Dodge Charger Pursuit already held the record for the fastest lap at the Michigan State Police tests with a time of 1:33.7 and with all wheel drive Charger Pursuit running a time of 1:33.85 – there is very little performance compromised for those police forces that prefer the AWD models over the RWD models.
“With the record-holding rear-wheel drive Dodge Charger Pursuit and now the fastest-ever recorded all-wheel drive model, Chrysler Group offers those who protect and serve us with the best pursuit-rated sedans in the business,” said Peter Grady, Vice President of Network Development and Fleet, Chrysler Group LLC. “And with the only test cars achieving lap times less than 1:34, Dodge Charger Pursuit highlights the segment’s best combination of world-class technology, acceleration, braking, handling and dynamics.”
In addition to being the fasted all wheel drive police car to lap Grattan Raceway, the 2014 Dodge Charger Pursuit AWD is able to come to a dead stop from 60 miles per hour in just 127 feet thanks to a new high performance braking system that features gigantic 14.5 inch rotors up front. Also, thanks to the segment exclusive active transfer case and front axle disconnect system, the Charger Pursuit AWD offers great fuel economy as the car seamlessly converts to rear drive in cruising conditions where AWD isnt needed. Of course, the 2014 Charger Pursuit AWD is powered by the tried and true 5.7L Hemi V8 with 370 horsepower and 390lb-ft of torque – a powertrain which helps this all wheel drive police car rip from a stop up to 60 miles per hour in under 6 seconds while still being able to achieve 25 miles per gallon.
Helping the 2014 Dodge Charger Pursuit AWD handle the turns en route to record lap times is a heavy duty suspension system that affords this roomy cop car incredible handling and ride quality but it also features components that are designed to face the abuse of daily police use. The Charger Pursuit package features a performance tuned suspension with load leveling NIVOMAT shock absorbers, front and rear stabilizer bars and a specially tuned dual mode Electronic Stability Control system along with special police performance tires wrapped around sturdy 18 inch steel wheels.
Finally, the 2014 Dodge Charger Pursuit AWD package comes with a police specific SecurePark system that prevents the car from being driven without the key fob being present, a variable displacement air conditioning system and available rear park assist.
This newest (and fastest) all wheel drive Dodge Charger Pursuit will be available to police departments around the country beginning in early 2014.
