Over the past week the Chrysler Group has bombarded the world with news on their latest chapter of supercar awesomeness in the form of the 2013 SRT Viper and when the very first production Viper rolls off of the assembly line – it will head off to the auction block of Barrett Jackson in Orange Country California with the proceeds going to support pediatric cancer patients.

It has become commonplace for American automakers to take the “first” of something and auction it off with the proceeds going to benefit a charity and even though SRT faithful are surely lining up to get their hands on 2013 Viper #1 – the first new SRT supercar will go to the highest bidder at the June 22-24 Barrett Jackson Auto Auction.

The benefactors of the auction for the first production 2013 SRT Viper will be the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer, a Tennessee based charity group who helps collect money that goes to help families with children who are dealing with cancer and cancer treatment. Certainly an admirable cause and a worthy one to receive the first of the production versions of the 2013 Viper to roll off of the Connor Avenue Assembly plant line.

"We are thrilled that SRT has chosen us to be a part of this extraordinary opportunity," said Dr. Jim Osborn Co-founder of the Austin Hatcher Foundation. "We are tremendously excited to see the 2013 SRT Viper. It is an amazing vehicle. We are also very excited that the first production Viper be auctioned at Barrett- Jackson Orange County to benefit the many families faced with pediatric cancer. We just can't thank Mr. Gilles and his team enough."

There is no way of knowing just how much the first production version of the 2013 SRT Viper will go for but we would expect that, like most “firsts” that head to an auction block for charity, the Viper at Barrett Jackson’s Orange Country auction will be a heavily loaded up premium model so we would be that it will be a new Viper GTS with all of the bells and buzzers. Other recent charity vehicles, such as the Corvette 427 Convertible and the past few SEMA Cares muscle cars, have seen their closing price range from a 250,000 to 600,000. Considering that this is the first of the next generation Viper and we can expect that the normal price tag could be in excess of a hundred grand – the first 2013 Viper is expected to draw some major money for Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer.

Another interesting fact that this news brings about is that the 2013 SRT Viper production will have started far enough in advance that the first Viper will be ready for the auction on June 22-24. This means that Viper production at Connor Ave will begin within the next month or so…so even if you can’t afford the six-figure price tag of the first Viper; you may be able to get your hands on one before the end of summer if you have the right connections.
