Ford Motor Company had a fairly strong month in November 2011 with 166,865 units sold making them the second largest automaker in the US in terms of volume and a growth rate year over year of 13.25% making them the second best American automaker in terms of improvement compared to November 2010.
The Ford brand was the top performer in November 2011 for Ford Motor Company in terms of both growth and sales volume with 160,560 vehicles sold accounting for a gain of 20.2% compared to November 2010. Ford once again got a huge boost from the strong-selling Explorer which moved 12,888 units for an increase of 217.4% over the same month last year. The discontinued Ranger pickup was second in growth with an 85.6% jump while the tried and true Ford Escape rounded out the top three in terms of growth with an increase of 46.1%. The Ford brand, as always, was lead in sales by the F Series pickup with a whopping 47,740 trucks sold last month which brought about a 23.9% gain over last year. The Escape small SUV was second in sales with 21,823 units sold and the Ford Fusion was third in total sales with 19,912 units sold. Ford will soon benefit from the revised 2013 Taurus and 2013 Mustang, with both of those models slated to reach US dealers in early spring 2012 while the Ford Focus ST will also make its debut – thrusting Ford into the high performance sport compact segement.
The bad news from Ford Motor Company last month was that their luxury Lincoln brand struggled, moving just 6,305 units for a decline of 17.6% compared to last November. Only one vehicle, the MKX, showed positive growth with a 4.9% gain over the same month last year. In terms of sales volume, the MKZ was Lincoln’s top performer with 2,083 sedans sold (a decline of 18.9% compared to last November). The MKX was second in sales with 1,983 SUVs sold and the MKS sedan was third in sales with 1,017 units sold. While this hasn’t been a great year for the Lincoln brand without the help of the Mercury brand, Ford Motor Company has new models planned for Lincoln over the next few years as the American automaker works to help Lincoln compete in the American luxury market. The first big change will be the revised MKS and MKZ coming out over the next few months while new models will help Lincoln compete in new luxury segments.
