The 2015 Ford Mustang GT is months away from arriving in dealerships across the country, but that hasn’t stopped Ford Racing from already developing a new supercharger for the next generation Mustang – and the company recently teased the new supercharger package for the 2015 Mustang GT on their official Facebook page.
The image above shows the 5.0L V8 engine that will power the 2015 Ford Mustang GT topped by what appears to be an Eaton TVS R2300 supercharger. The Ford Racing Facebook explained that this shot provides “a sneak peek at the Ford Racing super charger development for the 2015 Ford Mustang GT 5.0” No other information was included, but the person posting as the Ford Racing Facebook page reminded us all that the Ford Racing offers a supercharger package for the 2011-2014 Mustang GT that increases the output up to a whopping 624 horsepower and 536lb-ft of torque.
The 2015 Mustang GT is expected to pack slightly more power than the 2014 Mustang GT so I would guess that the supercharger package for the 2015 GT would have slightly more power as well.
The most significant part of this 2015 Ford Mustang GT supercharger testing image is the supercharger itself. The 2011-2014 Mustang GT supercharger package that increases the output from 420hp to 624hp uses a 2.3L Whipple twin screw supercharger unit.
The engine in the image above appears to be wearing an Eaton TVS R2300 supercharger; similar to the one used by Roush on many of their high performance Mustang GT packages. The Whipple and Eaton blowers look very similar, but in examining both of those units alongside the picture above – it definitely looks more like the Eaton TVS supercharger than the Whipple that is available from Ford Racing right now. Particularly the corner of the supercharger body nearest the camera appears to be shaped more like the Eaton TVS used by Roush than the Whipple currently used by Ford Racing.
Anyways, regardless of what brand of supercharger Ford Racing has chosen for the 2015 Ford Mustang GT, we can expect at least a little more power and – if nothing else – improved performance. The S550 Mustang should be at least a little lighter than the outgoing models and packing 625hp into the svelte 2015 Mustang should make it one serious screamer.
Of course, the 2015 Mustang GT will feature a new independent rear suspension that should afford it world class handling, but drag racers are concerned that this new standard IRS will make hard launching far more difficult. Adding an extra two hundred or so horsepower could make that an even trickier tasks – although I’m sure that the folks from Ford Racing have already put plenty of planning into aftermarket modifications that will help make the 2015 Mustang GT a quarter mile monster.
Ford Racing has promised to show off something special about the 2015 Mustang each month on the 15th so in a month or so, we are likely to see something else exciting about the next generation Ford muscle car. Stay tuned…as things are really going to heat up in the world of muscle cars over the next year.
