Ford Motor Company has teamed up with Revell to give away thousands of free 2015 Ford Mustang GT Coupe model kits to young show goers at the 2014 North American International Auto Show as part of the Make’N’Take area in the sprawling Ford brand display.
As the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit’s Cobo Hall reaches its final few days, hundreds of thousands of automotive enthusiasts have gotten a chance to meet the 2015 Ford Mustang in person. Ford Motor Company has offered up a small collection of next generation Mustangs in both coupe and convertible form in a variety of colors and there is no question that the 2015 Mustang has been one of the biggest stars of the 2014 Detroit show. As always, the Ford display has plenty of interactive areas but the Revell Make’N’Take area is arguably the coolest feature at the Detroit auto show in many years.
“For nearly 50 years, kids of all ages have been configuring and building their own personal full-size and small-scale Mustangs, and now they can build a new dream car and take it home,” said Steve Ling, Ford car marketing manager. “Many of us grew up building model cars, and it’s great to have Revell join us in Detroit with its newest model kit as we show off the all-new Ford Mustang at an auto show for the first time.”
Revell is a leader in the model car industry so it makes good sense for Ford Motor Company to team up with Revell to create a new 2015 Ford Mustang GT model but my mind is a little blown at the fact that Ford and Revell are giving these models away to kids at the 2014 NAIAS. In the Make’N’Take area, junior Mustang lovers can assemble a 2015 Ford Mustang GT in Race Red with black wheels, trim and interior. This is a simple snap together kit that Ford states will only take a few minutes so kids will leave the Ford area with an awesome collectable to take home – and its free! Ford has even put together a short video showing how easy it is to put together the 2015 Ford Mustang GT Revell kit and you can check that out below.
“I am thrilled Revell has the opportunity to work with Ford this year and provide kids and enthusiasts a chance to make and then take our 2015 Ford Mustang models home with them,” said Lou Aguilera, Revell vice president and general manager. “I look forward to the growth of this partnership with Ford Motor Company, and the historic introduction of an iconic American vehicle.”
It is rare that I am jealous of those folks who have to attend the North American International Auto Show on the public days because it is a crowded, cluttered nightmare – or at least it is once you have attended the show on media days where there are only thousands of people instead of tens of thousands of people. However, the opportunity to have my kid build a Revell model of the 2015 Ford Mustang might just be worth the headache of dealing with 10,000 aging babyboomers talking about how this will be the year that their wives let them sell the minivan and buy a 2015 Mustang. I suspect that this first 2015 Mustang model could become an instant collectable so some grownup Mustang enthusiasts might be buying their little ones a far more expensive (and far less collectable) toy or group of toys in exchange for the Revell 2015 Mustang GT.
The 2014 North American International Auto Show runs through Sunday, January 26th so while the show is coming to an end, you still have time to get to Detroit and have your kid build (you) a new 2015 Ford Mustang GT. Props to Ford for putting together such a cool program with Revell for the younger auto show attendees…this is the kind of thing that leaves a strong impression on kids and builds interest in the industry.
