The Buick Regal is very closely based on the European Opel Insignia so when spyshots surfaced showing a Buick Regal Wagon in the Detroit area, many assumed that the Opel Insignia Sports Tourer would be making an appearance as a sports wagon for the Buick brand but according to multiple sources, that isn’t going to happen.
Inside Line spoke with a representative from the Buick brand who said "Absolutely not...there is no Regal Wagon in our future plans”, which should come as a major bummer to those who love the 2011 Buick Regal but who also want a little more cargo space. Unfortunately, while the Opel Insignia Sports Tourer makes one great looking wagon in Europe, the “station wagon” taboo has killed many a great 5-door models here in the US and kept many other automakers from introducing these family trucksters – sporty as they may be.
The Buick Regal has quickly become one of the most popular vehicles in Buick’s portfolio and with new models, like the eAssist and high performance GS models headed for production soon, there are rumors that General Motors wishes to do more to diversify the Regal lineup. The most popular rumor is that there will be a Regal Coupe on the way and with an Insignia Sports Tourer already existing in Europe, it wouldn’t be hard for GM to throw some Buick badges on it and market it in the US but with the Regal Wagon reportedly getting the big thumbs down from The General, the dreams of a 5-door Buick appear to be dead – for now. On the other hand, while GM hasn’t confirmed any plans of a Regal Coupe, they also haven’t put those rumors to rest like they have with the Regal Wagon so in the words of Jim Carey in Dumb and Dumber – “so youre sayin’ there’s a chance…”
Keep your fingers cross because a 2-door Buick Regal GS would make for one awesome mid-level luxury performance coupe with a turbocharged engine and a manual transmission…all they would need is a rear wheel drive setup and we could be looking at a modern day Buick Grand National. It should be pointed out that hopes of a RWD Buick Grand National Coupe are merely speculation on my part rooted in the hopes of so many Buick performance enthusiasts.

I'm not surprised at all that
I'm not surprised at all that the Buick Regal wagon isn't coming here. I think Americans much prefer SUV's and trucks for the most part while wagons are more popular in Europe. Wagons don't tend to sell very well here.
