The 2013 model year will mark the 60th anniversary of the fabled Chevrolet Corvette and to mark the occasion, General Motors will offer the 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible Collector’s Edition – the most capable, most powerful and most likely the fastest droptop Corvette built in the 60 year history of the ultimate American performance car.
Along with bringing about the 60th anniversary of the Chevrolet Corvette, 2013 is also slated to be the final year for the C6 platform generation so it is fitting that the generation that has worked to rocket the Corvette name into the supercar world would come to an end with an amazing special edition trimline like the 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible Collector’s Edition. The source of this special edition Corvette’s awesomeness is the 427 cubic inch, 7.0L LS7 engine borrowed from the current Corvette Z06 – which is available only as a coupe. Packing 505 horsepower and 470lb-ft of torque, the LS7 in the 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible Collector’s Edition makes this the most powerful Corvette convertible ever but it also makes this limited production droptop one of the best performing convertibles in the world today.
In addition to the LS7 engine from the Z06, the 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible Collector’s Edition includes the same 6-speed manual transmission and rear differential setup from the high performance Z06. Next, a set of 19” front wheels and 20” rear wheels are wrapped in the Michelin PS2 found on the Corvette ZR1 along with the super-Vette’s Magnetic Selective Ride Control system. Finally, GM engineers turned to the aerodynamics of this special edition Corvette, adding a carbon fiber raised hood from the Z06 Carbon, along with the Z06 flared carbon fiber fenders and floor.
This total package allows the 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible Collector’s Edition to rip from a stop to 60 miles per hour in just 3.8 seconds while reaching a top speed over 190mph and dashing through the quarter mile in around 11.8 seconds. The high tech suspension system should also make the 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible Collector’s Edition one of the best handling verts in the world so for those diehard Corvette lovers who have griped about the lack of a convertible Z06 and/or ZR1 - your ship is about to come in.
The 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible Collector’s Edition will make its formal public introduction at the Barrett Jackson Auto Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona on January 21st with the first customer models hitting dealerships this summer. No price is listed but considering the exclusivity and level of technology and performance poured into this incredible high performance droptop, we can expect it to cost well north of $100,000 – especially when you pick pricey options like the 4LT trimline or the optional CFZ package.
