The folks at Ford Motor Company have launched a very simple campaign that will allow Mustang fans around the world to help put the car in the Guinness Book of Records by signing the virtual birthday card shown above.
In case you live under a rock or you just moved from a location which had absolutely no media reach, you should know that the Ford Mustang will officially turn 50 years old on April 17th 2014. Ford Motor Company has all sorts of events planned all over the country for Mustang owners and enthusiasts to participate in the celebration, but for those pony car lovers who cannot make the trip to New York, North Carolina, Las Vegas or any of the other 50th Anniversary celebration points – Ford has one more way that you can help make this birthday special for Ford and the mighty Mustang.
You might be wondering how many signatures the Ford Mustang birthday cars will need to set the record. Ive been digging around the internet a bit, trying to find out what the previous record is for the most virtual signatures on an eCard and even when looking around the Guinness World Book web site, I cannot find information on the previous record. I did find a website discussing how there was an attempt to hit 50,000 signatures on an eCard for the baby of the British Royal Family, but with no reports of that ever happening – I am inclined to believe that they fell short. However, with multiple mentions online of people attempting to set the record by hitting 50,000 signatures, I expect that the Guinness people have set the record number at 50,000.
When I signed the card early this morning, I was the 7,463rd person to do so and with Ford shooting for a total of 50,000 virtual signatures on the Ford Mustang’s birthday eCard, Ford has quite a ways to go to make the record happen. Fortunately, the Mustang’s birthday isnt technically until the 17th so Mustang fans have a full week to head to the Ford Social site (there is a link below) to sign the card. All you have to do is put in your first name, an email address and a message of 140 characters or less and in doing so, you can help get the Ford Mustang in the Guinness Book of World Records in an area where we wouldn’t expect to see a car listed.
For those of you wondering if the Ford Mustang already appears in the long list of official world records, the answer is yes. Back in 2008, a group of 620 Mustang owners drove from St-Eulalie Quebec to Victoriaville, Quebec – which set a record for the largest parade of a single make of vehicles.
So, whether you are a Ford Mustang owner, fan or you just like the idea of helping the mighty Mustang jump into the Guinness Book of World Records, click here to visit the Ford Social website to sign the Mustang’s 50th birthday card!
