After meeting the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD earlier this week, the company has rolled out another shot of the all-new heavy duty truck – this time showcasing the premium High Country trim level with its own unique version of the polarizing new front end.
Earlier this week, we brought you a first look at the redesigned 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Heavy Duty. Curiously, GM opted not to introduce the truck in the flesh at the ongoing LA Auto Show, instead debuting the truck online with a simple press release. The details were short, but the biggest discussion point that came away from the virtual debut was the new front end.
It is definitely unlike anything else on the market and social media commenters have not been kind in expressing their views, but for those who don’t like the new Chevy Silverado HD front end, we have good news – there are going to be five different designs. However, based on the face of the 2500 HD High Country, they are all going to have the same basic design with a gigantic, two-are grille flanked by the split headlight layout.
In other words, if you didn’t like the first front end, you probably aren’t going to like this one.
2020 Silverado High Country
The truck shown above is the new 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD High Country. For the most part, it looks just like the first new Chevy HD pickup that we saw earlier this week, but it has a unique grille with different “filler” and a different badging format along with different headlights. This truck has the Chevy bowtie in the middle of the grille, chrome horizontal bars and LED-trimmed headlights while the new Silverado we saw earlier this week had simpler Halogen headlights, a sporty mesh-style grille design and “Chevrolet” spelled out across the middle rather than the bowtie.
As the premium trim level of the 2020 Silverado HD lineup, the High Country design has a premium look with lots of chrome and high tech headlights, while the lower front fascia (the bumper area on older trucks) is body-colored on this truck whereas the Z71 has a chrome fascia.
“Truck customers are very clear: They want the perfect truck for them and not a ‘one size fits most’ truck compromised for the masses,” said Mike Simcoe, vice president, Global Design, General Motors. “That insight shaped our strategy for the next-generation Silverado franchise, providing customers more differentiation between the Silverado 1500 and the Silverado HD as well as more personalization and differentiation between individual trim levels.”
Five Trim Levels
So far, we have seen the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD in LT Z71 and High Country trim. Those will be joined by three others when the truck goes on sale next year – Work Truck, Custom and LTZ. Each trim level will have its own unique front end look with varying colors and designs, and we can expect to see pictures of the other models as we get closer to the formal debut.
“We took into account every detail of what customers expect, and how they will use their truck,” said Simcoe. “The results are unique versions of the Silverado HD equally at home working on a construction site or pulling a camping trailer.”
