The Chrysler Group rolled out another video showing off their new 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and this newest video is by far the best yet with our first look at a full quarter mile run – with the 707hp Challenger turning a stunning 10 second quarter mile time.
While it was big news for the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat to come with 707 horsepower and 650lb-ft of torque, running a factory quarter mile time in the ten second range is almost as impressive. To show off the ten second capabilities, the automaker put together a video showing the Hellcat racing against a 1971 Hemi Challenger (the vehicle on which the 2015 styling is based) with Richard Rawlings from TV’s Fast N Loud at the wheel of the 707 horsepower monster. The result is a stunningly fast quarter mile time of 10.85 seconds – comfortably making it the quickest stock muscle car of all time.
Getting Into the 10s Could Require Drag Radials
One thing that they do not mention in the video showing the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is that the car being raced by Richard Rawlings is fitted with a set of super sticky drag radial racing tires. Those tires are street legal, so you could very easily come across a Hellcat wearing a set of these on the road, but they offer better traction than the tires that come on the Hellcat Challenger from the dealership.
Some readers and GM/Ford fans will point out that this isn’t a factory 10 second quarter mile car since it had drag radials – and they are right – but we should keep in mind that Richard Rawlings likely didn’t have a whole lot of seat time to practice his launches and such before making this run. If he spent all day or even an entire week practicing launching the Challenger SRT Hellcat for this video, that cannot compare to the time that will be spent in the car by an owner and with that in mind, I expect that we will see private owners getting into the 10 second range with the factory tires and without any other modifications.

In any case, it seems as though the Chrysler Group is happy with announcing that the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat with drag radial tires can run a 10.85, but what about when you are trying to make use of all of that power with the stock tires? Well, those times are almost as impressive.
The Quickest Stock American Muscle Car Ever
In the fine print at the end of the video that shows the new Challenger SRT Hellcat running a 10.85 at 126.18 miles per hour explains that the ten second run was made with drag radial tires. With the stock tires, the Hellcat Challenger “only” ran an 11.2 at 125 miles per hour and that time/speed is NHRA certified. For comparison, the 662 horsepower Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang runs through the quarter mile in fully stock form in 11.5 seconds while a stock Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 will typically run the quarter in the high 11 second range.
By the way, in Motor Trend’s testing of the 2013 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and the 2013 SRT Viper, both of those cars ran turned in a best quarter mile time of 11.4 at 128 miles per hour. Granted, faster times have been turned in by private owners for both of those cars, but this shows very clearly that the Hellcat Challenger is at least competitive with the very best American performance cars of all time.
