The 2012 Honda Civic has just begun hitting the streets of North America and the Japanese automaker has already issued a recall to address a possible fuel system problem.
This new 2012 Honda Civic recall pertains to both the 2-door coupes and 4-door sedan built between April 21, 2011 and May 2, 2011; with 1,156 units affected in all. In these vehicles, Honda believes that an o-ring helping to secure the fuel feed line may have been installed incorrectly and in the event that this o-ring is misaligned, there is a possibility of the fuel line leaking. Of course, whenever there is a fuel leak there is a greater chance of a fire and in this case, a fuel line fire is about as bad as things can get.
Honda reports that there have been no fires or injuries caused by this 2012 Honda Civic fuel line recall and the majority of the vehicles they’ve found to be leaking are still in company inventory. All of these vehicles that are not yet sold will be repaired before being sold but for the 1,156 owners of the affected 2012 Civics around the country – you can expect to hear from Honda by May 27th. The company will request that you return to your friendly neighborhood Honda dealership where the fuel feed line will be replaced free of charge.
This is second recent Honda Civic recall due to fuel system issues, as Honda recalled 18,056 2011 model year Civics over a possible fuel leak stemming from a faulty rollover valve in the fuel pump assembly. However, while the recall for the 2012 Civic sounds to be more of a production error, the problems causing the 2011 Civic fuel pump recall stemmed from damage that occurred to the units during shipping to Honda.
