How I Would Build My Ideal 2015 Ford F150

Work for Torque News, follow on Twitter, Youtube and Facebook.

Since the 2015 Ford F150 build page went live, we have looked at the pricing and options for several different trimlines, but today I will walk you all through the configurator tool as I build my ideal next gen aluminum F150.

The 2015 Ford F150 is offered in 5 trimlines, 3 cab layouts with 3 different bed options, 4 different engines and either rear wheel drive or four wheel drive. These options make for a great many combinations for the new F150, so I took to the Ford.com build page for the 2015 Ford half ton pickup to see how I would order my perfect new F150.

Which 2015 F150 Trimline
In addition to bringing you the hottest automotive news each day, my wife and I also run a premium horse boarding stable in which we keep several of our own horses so for me, the 2015 Ford F150 King Ranch seems like a no brainer. I currently drive a Ram 1500 Laramie and in the same way that I bought a loaded Dodge truck, I would want a heavily optioned Ford truck. That narrows my options down to the King Ranch and the Platinum, and the Platinum is just a little too much bling for my taste.

The 2015 Ford F150 King Ranch has a base price of $48,495 that jumps to $49,690 with the hefty destination fee of $1,195. However, that base price comes with a handful of features that I wouldn’t want so next we look at the cab, engine, bed and drive line options.

F150 Cab, Bed and Drivetrain
The base price of the 2015 Ford F150 King Ranch includes a SuperCrew cab, a 5.5 foot bed, the 5.0L V8 and rear wheel drive. I would never want a bed that small so I would pay the extra $300 for the 6.5 foot bed, as that extra foot really does make a difference. I live in Michigan, so I would pick four wheel drive (adding $3,425 to the final price) and while the 5.0L V8 is a great engine, I do a ton of towing and I would want the greatest standard towing capacity possible – which means that I would pick the 3.5L EcoBoost (+$400 and worth every cent).

Picking these optional features pushes the price of my 2015 F150 up to $52,620 before heading to the option pages of the configurator.

Package Options for the 2015 F150
My wife is not very tall and the horses are technically hers, so she would be using our 2015 Ford F150 quite a bit. Because of this, I would definitely opt for the $3,690 601A Equipment Group that adds a large list of features, most notably the tailgate step and power step boards as well as unique 20 inch wheels that I really like. I would also pick the Max Trailer Tow Package for $795 and the $770 FX4 Off Road package, bringing the total price of my ideal new F150 to $57,800.

Interior and Exterior Options
The 2015 Ford F150 King Ranch is offered in nine exterior colors and my choice from the group would be Blue Jeans with the contrasting Caribou lower trim. I would then add the $295 bed divider system, the $475 spray in bed liner, the $325 box side steps, the $250 bed extender, the $995 hard folding tonneau cover and the $1,295 dual panel moon roof on the outside. The interior is so well appointed that I would pick any of the optional items and I would happily take the Java interior hue that is standard on all new King Ranch F150s.

All said and done with everything listed above, my ideal 2015 Ford F150 King Ranch would carry an MSRP of $61,435. It would essentially have all of the comforts of a modern luxury car in a truck that will tow more than 12,000lbs – a best in class figure.
