Tata Motors is based out of India and among their huge global product lineup is their semi-popular Tata Nano – the cheapest (least expensive) car in the world today. This past weekend Tato Technologies, a subsidiary of Tata Motors, announced that they would be hiring 400 engineers at its Novi, Michigan US headquarters with hopes of filling these positions by January 3rd, 2011.

Tata Technologies is a global leader in engineering outsourcing services and these new 400 engineering jobs will go towards adding to Tata’s engineering involvement with North American-based automakers. Prior to these new 400 jobs, Tata Technologies employed around 500 people in the US with more than 80% of them located at their Novi HQ. The engineering outsourcing division of Tata Motors is based out of Singapore with offices in Pune, India and Luxton, United Kingdom with the four main offices (the 4th being in Novi) comprising one of the fastest growing engineering firms in the world.

While some question the possibility of Tata’s low-priced products joining the US auto industry, Tata Technologies works with a great many of the world’s automakers and the fact that they, like many automakers, are looking to add big numbers is a good sign of the industry continuing to climb out of the Great Recession of 2008-2009. Also, with the Detroit area in such bad shape an additional 400 engineering jobs should help put some people back to work before or shortly after Christmas – serving as a great present for a spread of families in Motown.
