When the 2012 Geneva Motor Show opens early next month, the Chrysler Group’s Jeep brand will roll out a pair of “production intent” models that emphasize the sport in sport utility vehicle as well as a special edition of the tried and true Jeep Wrangler.
The first of the “production intent sports concept” models is based on the current Jeep Grand Cherokee shown on the right. This concept features a great looking contrasting paint scheme with a bright gloss white body accented with black trim on the grille, the unique 20” wheels, the flares, the rear liftgate and lower portion of the body all of the way around. Finishing off the unique exterior design of the Grand Cherokee concept coming to Geneva is Chrysler’s Platinum Chrome trim in the grille inserts and on the lower front end appliqué. Inside, this Jeep is entirely blacked out for a sinister, sporty feel while the power is provided by the European 3.0L V6 turbo diesel engine. This common rail diesel offers 241 horsepower and 406lb-ft of torque while also offering excellent fuel economy with the help of Fiat’s Multijet II technology. This engine sends that power to the wheels via a 5-speed automatic transmission and Jeep’s Quadra-Trac four wheel drive system.
Next up is another product intent concept with this one being based on the popular Jeep Compass. Like the Grand Cherokee, the Compass concept begins on the outside with a unique paint scheme – this time ditching the white in favor of an entirely black exterior. The wheels, lower fascia cladding, mirrors, headlights and grille openings are all finished in a unique gloss black while the body itself is also black – all of which combine for a sporty look on the compact sport ute. Inside, the Jeep Compass concept is packed to the brim with extras beginning with the leather clad seats – with everything once again in black. This concept is fitted with the premium Boston Acoustics 9-speaker sound system mated to Chrysler’s in dash navigation system and a 6.5” touch screen. Those who aren’t into all of the infotainment gadgets can also opt for a less expensive sound system featuring Infinity components once this production intent model actually reaches production. Available in either Sport and Limited trimlines, this sporty Compass package will be powered by a 163 horsepower, 2.2L turbocharged diesel engine that churns out 236lb-ft of torque and unlike the Grand Cherokee production intent models – buyers of this dressed up Compass with be able to pick front- or four-whee-drive.
Finally, the third big introduction for the Jeep brand at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show is the new Wrangler Mountain. This new package is begins with a Wrangler Sport model in either the two or four door configuration and while the show vehicle in Geneva will show off the new Gecko paint option, buyers will be able to equip the Mountain package on Wranglers in a variety of colors including Black, Bright White, Dozer and Black Forrest Green. On the outside, the Wrangler Mountain receives unique decals on the hood, a Mineral Grey grille treatment, Mineral Grey 17” wheels, Mopar side steps and a Mopar black fuel filler door. The Jeep Wrangler Mountain will be available with a choice of two engines, the first being a 200 horsepower, 2.8L turbo diesel mill and the second is the newly unveiled (in Europe) 3.6L Pentastar V6 – packing 284 horsepower and 256ln-ft of torque.
