Some would argue that the most important aspect of the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS is the LT1 V8 tucked under the hood so to prepare Chevy fans for the debut of the 6th gen muscle car, GM has offered up a free ringtone that makes your cell phone sound like the new SS V8 engine.
General Motors hasn’t been particularly forthcoming with details on the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro, but we know that the Camaro SS will be powered by a similar LT1 V8 to the one in the C7 Corvette Stingray. However, the 6th gen Camaro SS will have some unique packaging changes from the Corvette, allowing it to fit better in the new F-body’s engine bay. This will include a new tri-y exhaust manifold which, when combined with what I expect to be a pretty beefy exhaust system, will allow the LT1 engine to produce a pretty healthy roar.
To show off that roar before the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS debuts, General Motors has created a free ring tone for your cell phone, featuring the sounds of the new LT1 V8 in the Camaro. Fortunately, they have also created a short video clip demonstrating the ring tone, so we can all hear the exhaust tone of the new Camaro SS without making it our ring tone.
The Camaro SS Ring Tone
The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS ring tone starts off as the LT1 V8 fires up and idles for a few seconds before offering up one good, hard rev of the engine. We then hear the tires spin a bit as the engine revs once again, and as the driver grabs second gear (with a fairly gentle shift), we can tell that this is an acceleration video – only without the video. We get to listen to the 6th gen Camaro run through the first four gears before the run fades out and the video ends with two more quick sound bites of the LT1 Camaro idling.
So, if you love the Camaro and you want your cell phone to sound like the 2016 SS LT1 engine, click here to head to the Camaro Six website to download the 6th gen Camaro ring tone. If you just want to hear the LT1 engine roaring to life and running through the revs a few times, check out the video below.
