The folks at BMW have announced that they will debut the new BMW 3 Series in Munich, Germany on October 14th, 2011 and for those who cannot attend in person, the German automaker will also offering streaming video on Facebook of the 3 Series world premiere.
BMW hasn’t offered a great idea as to what we can expect from the 2012 3 Series but we can expect to see a sedan that shares many of the aesthetic features of the current BMW 5 Series – only smaller. BMW rolled out the new 1 Series models earlier this year which included a new, larger headlight design and lightly refreshed dual opening grille; both of which could present themselves on the upcoming 3 Series.
It will be interesting to see just how many versions of the new 3 Series that we get to see on Friday, as it is expected that the 2-door coupe and convertible versions of the BMW 3 Series will become the new BMW 4 Series; very similar to how the new BMW 1 Series is just the sedan and 5-door while the BMW 2 Series will offer the coupe, convertible and likely the high performance 2 Series M Coupe – or maybe the M2. Supposing that they do only unveil a sedan and 5-door wagon version of the 2012 BMW 3 Series, it could add some credence to the idea that the 2-door models will be introduced at some point as the new 4 Series. We also have our fingers crossed that one of the 2012 BMW sedans unveiled has the letter “M” somewhere in the name.
The BMW 3 Series has long been the German automakers bread and butter, with many companies around the world (like Cadillac with their upcoming ATS sedan) constantly working to keep up with the 3 Series that dominates the midsized luxury segment. The automotive world has been speculating for months now what we can expect from the refreshed 2012 BMW 3 Series and now we have about 4 days and 2 hours until the new 3 Series meets the world and Munich – and around the world thanks to the wonders of the internet.
