New Hellcat Dodge Stock Power 1/4-mile Record Set in Michigan

Work for Torque News, follow on Twitter, Youtube and Facebook.

This past weekend, a 2016 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat with absolutely no power modifications ran a 10.56 quarter mile – setting the record for the quickest Dodge Hellcat car running on 100% stock power.

Before getting into the newest record-setting Dodge Hellcat car, a quick breakdown of this record.

The Hellcat Challenger shown in the video below has a 100% stock engine – no cold air intake, no exhaust system, no tune. This Challenger makes the same horsepower as it did when it came off of the showroom floor, so according to FCA, this supercharged Dodge is packing 707 horsepower and 650lb-ft of torque. It has a few other modifications that we will discuss below, but to my knowledge and the knowledge of the Hellcat owner community – no Hellcat Challenger or Hellcat Charger has made a quicker quarter mile pass on stock power.

Again, to be clear, this is not a stock Hellcat record, but a stock power record…and onto the details.

Stock Power Hellcat Challenger Goes 10.56
The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is question is owned and driven by Simon Haddad of Clinton Township, Michigan. It is a 2016 model year car in Jazz Blue with the 8-speed automatic transmission and Sepia leather. The only modifications include a set of 3.09 rear gears, a stronger one piece aluminum driveshaft and a set of Mickey Thompson Street R drag radial tires, so while the driveshaft is more of a safety measure – the only performance-adding modifications are the steeper rear gears and the stickier rear tires.

When Simon Haddad made his first pass this past weekend at Lapeer Raceway in Lapeer, Michigan, he laid down an impressive 10.59 quarter mile ET. That tied the stock power record that we discussed a few weeks back and on his second run of the day, Simon and his Jazz Blue Hellcat Challenger set the new stock power Hellcat quarter mile record with a time of 10.58.

Finally, Simon Haddad backed up his stock power record with a time of 10.56 at 130.99 miles per hour. On that run, he pulled a 60 foot time of just 1.543 on a DOT approved tire.

The video below shows the 10.58 run and while we do not have video of the 10.56 run, I know several racers who were present for the record run.

Haddad Praises the Hellcat Durability
When I was speaking with Simon Haddad about his stock power Hellcat Challenger quarter mile record, he offered an interesting bit of input on something that we don’t often discuss in relation to the Hellcat cars – durability.(Video on Page 2)

Haddad has made over 150 quarter mile passes at tracks all over Michigan this summer, often racing at least once a week. He drove his Hellcat Challenger between 150 and 200 miles to get to and from each track – sometimes making more than a dozen runs in a day before making the long drive home in the same form that he made the drive down the track. Through all of that racing and driving, Haddad hasn’t had any issues with his Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.

Thanks to David L. for the video footage and photo credit to Simon Haddad.

I THINK MOST PEOPLE WHO KNOW CARS AND DRAG RACING WILL AGREE THAT IF YOU CHANGE THE REAR GEAR AND REAR TIRE TO DRAG TIRES AND DIFFERENT DRIVE SHAFT, THAT THE CAR IS NO LONGER FACTORY STOCK, AS TRACTION AND QUICKER 1/4 MILES ARE GREATLY IMPROVED. IF I CHANGED THE REAR GEARS AND PUT DRAG TIRES ON MY 2016 Z06, I THINK IT WOULD GO IN THE LOW 10'S. TAKE A STOCK MUSTANG GT350 OR 2013/2014 MUSTANG GT 500 OR ZL1 CAMARO,CHANGE THE REAR GEARS AND PUT ON DRAG TIRES THEY SHOULD BEAT THE DODGE HELLCAT JUST BECAUSE THE DODGE WIEGHT ABOUT 4500 LBS.

Well, then, prove it! Put some gears and slicks on your Z06 (the driveshaft is not a performance upgrade but a safety one) and line up with this Hellcat. Put up or shut up! Otherwise, you're just talking out your ear!

Apparently you didn't read this article because it emphasized Stock power!!! It said it has factory stock power. No engine modifications to add horsepower.

My 2015 Z/28 is totally stock, except for the addition of a Whipple 2.9 liter supercharger, Summit racing headers, and racing injectors. Can I get some of this action?

in Michigan at this time of year, the temp can be in the lower 50 or 40s; the stock hellcat has a CAI and thus benefit of cooler air entering the engine by a few degress which can add inherent horsepower without having to do anything; running stock power on one piece drive shaft with 3.09 and MTs is no longer a record as the 60 ft time must improved ten folds due to low spin or no tire spin (3.09 + MT combo); love the hellcat and this article is a nice online content to drive circulation and advertising/clicking revenues; smart; but the article has almost no relevance

I'd like to know which (specific) rim and tire combo was used in this run and will fit out-of-the-box on the Hellcat Challenger...

The point is that the engine and transmission are stock. And 3.09 is a stock rear ratio with the auto trans, hardly a drag ratio. And the challenger weighs about 4250. Get your facts before talking trash. Also the hellcat comes with 275 tires that cannot hook up so big tires are needed.

Some of us are old enough to remember when AA Fuel Rails were breaking the 8 second mark. Now street cars are closing in on that number!

If you spend 80K on a car. and only run a 10.50..... you are mentally retarded.
my 2003 terminator runs 10's all day long... 15K car.. 4K kenne bell. and 1K fuel system/tune

tell you what ill race that hellcat.. with a bag in the passenger seat holding $50,000 cash.

then see which one you wanna take home.

This record will be fine until the Tesla Roadster comes out in 2020. base model will blow this away 8.5- 8.7. The Roaster with upgrade ( still street legal will be a 0-60 monster of 1.3 seconds. Who knows what that one will do in the 1/4.

Why not race for the "title" ? Bring your Mustangs, Camaros, & Challengers limited to any dot tire under wheelwell and any gear ratio available from the factory for that body ! All stock otherwise ! M/T as sponsor ?

This past weekend this record was broken. It was set in Southern Ontario, Canada. A close friend Malcom who previously had the record set a new record far beyond this one, with at time of 10.31 seconds in a stock challenger Hellcat with tires and some weight reduction done to the car. The car has had no modifications to the powertrain or drivetrain!

Im not gonna come on here and say I could take that car, because I cant...its a beast. The problem is is that when you change the gears and driveshaft no matter the reason, the car is no longer stock. Period. Thats it.
Nice Hellcat, have a good day
