This flawless 1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS clone packs a 355 cubic inch V8 with an all-original exterior look.
For the past few years, TorqueNews has worked with the members from the Camaros Unlimited Facebook group to select our Camaro of the Month. This begins with the members of the Camaros Unlimited Facebook page – nearly than 43,000 of them – nominating their favorite Chevrolet Camaro owned by a fellow member of the page. After five owners have been nominated by the community, the voting begins and when the balloting closes, we have our Camaro of the Month.
For October 2019, the huge crowd of Camaro fans and owners selected this 1967 RS/SS clone, owned and fully restored by Todd Nord. We reached out to Nord for more information on his gorgeous classic muscle car and below, you will find his story.
Building a 1967 Camaro RS/SS
The car is a 67' SS/RS clone. I always liked the SS stripes with the rear spoiler but the car, it just so happened to be a 67' not correct, but hey, I did it my way and I made it here.
I guess to start out I purchased the 67' Camaro back in 2006. I found it about two miles from my home. A gentleman was cleaning out his machine shed on his farm and I spotted it driving by, it wasn't even for sale. I saw the RS grill and had to have it. We settled on $2500.00, cash and I trailered it home.
My reason for wanting a Camaro goes back to 1985. I sat and watched a neighbor built an orange 69' Camaro SS/RS, in a one stall garage, down the street from me. He and my folks let me hang out, he was a very nice guy. I stayed out of his way, he let me help at times. Most times I'd just hand him tools. I was hooked from then on. I actually ran into him at the Iola car show here in Wisconsin, boy what great conversation we had. He remembered me. I let him know he was the reason I bought a Camaro and yes, I painted mine orange also.
I restored every inch of my car myself, bumper to bumper. It was a rotisserie build. It was basically a "flintstone" car, a mess. A lot of new sheet metal, all new interior, all new everything basically. I built a fresh motor, a 355 sbc with a automaticTH400 with a 8.5 GM rearend. It took me 2 1/2 years to complete it.
My wife and I drive this car everywhere across the state is doesn't sit summers. We've had infant car seats in it. I installed a third seatbelt some could haul all our kids. It's never out of the ordinary to see grocery bags in the trunk either.
