Almost two weeks ago, General Motors offered up the first teaser image of the new 2013 Buick Encore followed by a four quadrant image of the new crossover on Facebook with the four sections covered b the Buick logo– the second of which was revealed quietly over the long holiday weekend.
When General Motors announced that the 2013 Buick Encore would be making its grand debut at the 2012 North American International Auto Show, they included just one picture of the new crossover – a tightly cropped look at the sporty new headlight housing and edge of the hood. Shortly after that, the Buick Facebook page introduced an image of the new SUV dissected into four sections with a Buick logo set over a grey background hiding the image. The special Facebook page dedicated to the new Encore explained that over each of the 4 weeks leading up to the Detroit Auto Show debut in January, Buick would remove the coverings over each of the quadrants for a striptease style online unveiling of the new model.
GM began by first unveiling the upper left corner of the image, showing up the hood and part of the windshield and the second quadrant selected is the upper right – giving us a clear look at the top line of the new Buick Encore. The Encore is expected to be smaller than the popular Buick Enclave, so we can expect the Encore to be a compact SUV based on the GM Gamma platform shared by small cars such as the Chevy Sonic. While we can expect the Encore to be quite a bit bigger than the Sonic, this new Buick SUV could be the smallest sport ute sold by the General in the US, offering more of a car-like feel than other small compact SUVs like the GMC Terrain.
These two portions of the image of the 2013 Buick Encore on Facebook show us a very short, curvaceous roofline that leads us to expect that this will be 5-seater vehicle with no third row seats but even with the short body; this might be a surprisingly roomy little SUV. Other than what we can see in the image on the right, nothing is known about the new Buick Encore but with two weeks until the Detroit Auto Show, we can expect to see the third sometime next week with the final section being unveiled on January 10th – the day of the Encore’s debut in Detroit’s Cobo Hall at the 2012 NAIAS.
