We have gotten to watch the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe in action on the quarter mile via the few publications that have taken the C7 to the track but today we get to watch the first drag strip video of the 2014 Corvette in the hands of the owner.
It should be noted that while the black 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe shown in the videos is wearing the windshield banner of tuning giant Hennessey Performance but this car is factory stock. The unnamed owner is a customer of Hennessey who is likely preparing to turn their 460 horsepower C7 into a super powerful monster but Hennessey has offered up this video on their YouTube channel – presumably to offer a before and after video to show the impact of their tuning efforts while also drawing a bunch of online attention for being the people who showed off the first privately owned C7 on the track.
For the record, the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe in action in the video below features the optional automatic transmission, the high performance Z51 option package and the top of the line 3LT trimline. Right now, this is as loaded as the 2014 Corvette can get before getting to the full option list and while we don’t know what additional options (like Competition seats, Magnetic Selective Ride Control, etc) have been added – this particular C7 is probably a touch heavier than less well equipped models. There is a good chance that a well drive 2014 Corvette Coupe with a manual transmission and less interior goodies (thus less weight) will turn in better times but that shouldn’t take anything away from how impressive this first video of the 2014 Corvette on the quarter mile with a private owner behind the wheel is as this guy has likely just taken delivery but he has made himself an internet superstar for being the first to get his Corvette to the track.
The result of the first 2014 Corvette Stingray to hit the quarter mile is a very impressive 12.2373 with a trap speed of 114.88 miles per hour. It should be noted that on the run in the video below, the C7 only pulled a 60 foot time of 1.85 seconds and while that is quicker than most cars on the road could ever dream of traveling 60 feet, it isnt very good in the grand scheme of things. With stickier tires and a good, hard launch, the C7 Corvette should be very capable of 1.6 second 60 foot times and that should get the elapsed time very near – if not into – the 11 second quarter mile range. I spent years racing in the sportsman drag racing world with a car running comparable low 12 second times but trap speeds were a bit lower (around 108) while my 60 foot times were in the 1.62 range. The difference between my slower trap speeds and better short times help to show that with better short times, the 2014 Corvette will be able to run much better times than 12.23 with little more than traction improvements.
To be clear, Im not looking to downplay the impressive times turned in by this 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe but I mentioned my own racing times to show that we are certain to see quicker times as driver’s get more experience behind the wheel as with better launches comes much better ETs. In the meantime, check out the first video of a privately owned C7 Corvette on the quarter mile which – with the help of the folks from Hennessey Performance – has so many cameras inside and out that we get a look at this run from every angle.
Shout out to the Midwest Muscle crew for the heads up on this!
